Don't think the iPhone runs the full bluetooth protocol does it Matt? Think it's do-able but you'd need to jailbreak it and download a bluetooth package.

I'm not too familiar with iPhone, buth ELM327 bluetooth uses the seria port profile, that I think that it is supported (it is one of the more basic and old), but of course you would need the application to talk to the ELM327 and encode/decode the protocol and provide an user i/f :)

You don't need to take the throttlebody off if you need to confirm it has been upgraded to contacless. If the plastic cover has a larger centre on one of it's sides han the other, then it has been upgraded. If they are the same, it hasn't. If you still can't tell post a picture of the two sides and I let you know

Cheers

Undefined you need to take the Throttle Body off and photo the Throttle pots which are on the side of the unit, they are square black plastic units.

Hi Nick and Bill,

Thank you very much! Will check whether I can look into that to see whether it has been upgraded.... but could I know whether the upgrade to contactless throttle pot is an official upgrade from Maserati?

I did some research in the forums and noticed that there's a "conversion" to be done in order to use the contactless throttle pot and some experts in the UK offered this kind of services... of course, this won't be official then. But the post I found was a year ago... just want to confirm that the upgrade is now offered officially by Maserati or not? 'cos, somehow, if it is not officially offered by Maserati, I don't think mine one is a contactless throttle pot since the throttle body was rebuilt at the local dealer 2 months ago by its previous owner. I don't believe the dealer would tailor-made or convert anything other than replacing parts from Maserati factory as every dealer in the world does. :D Is my understanding correct? :)

Thank you very much!

That sounds cool, can you get it for iphone to?

Honestly, I don't know.... 'cos I don't have an iPhone.... You may search on iPhone's market to see whether there is any OBD software, if so, I believe that could work... 'cos the only requirement is the connection to Bluetooth..... and when the connection hooked up, the software just communicate with the OBD device attached to your car and talk to the car computer.... However, I have not tested it... maybe I can get my friend's iPhone to have a test... :D

It isnt a maserati upgrade as this would meen admitance on their part that there is a major issue with their cars and they would loose out on £1600+ of sales for each throttlebody!! I do the upgrade in the UK. Unfortunetly I dont keep a record of cars I have done other than peoples names for the purpose of warranty. However its very easy for me to identify if its one I have done if you post a picture. as far as I know I am the only one in the UK doing the contactless upgrade.

cheers

Hi Bill,

OIC.... well... then, I bet that my car won't have this kind of upgrade then... 'cos the previous owner of my car just took that car to the local dealer to have a rebuilt of the throttle body 2 months ago... So.... they shouldn't have such modification and they probably just replaced the throttle body with the new one from Maserati...

Thanks a lot! Anyway, since the throttle body doesn't cause any trouble now... I am still happy with it! :D

It will cause you a problem at some point, thats the problem with these things, you really should consider getting the mod done as it totally changes the experience of owning the car. Prior to getting mine done it was forever going into limp mode, usually when I had a friend in the car. If you are experiencing CELs and they are related to the throttle pot or pedal pot then get the wireless mod and the pedal pot wiring fixed.

Once its fixed you have a car almost a bulletproof as a 4200, but with turbos and boomerang lights!

hi all. didn't want to clutter the forum with an additional thread on something similar so begging indulgence.

so I have the CEL on when i pick up the car, run it a few days, then the car goes half limp after a few days (i.e. cannot rev >3k rpm), and full limp the very next day (i.e. cannot go >10kmh). i send it to the shop and my mech runs the SD2/3 and gets this reading:

["LH OXYGEN SENSOR EFFICIENCY > P1172" error lights up red.]

i then remove the TB and Throttle Pedal Pot to David Askew for a refurb (the gbp330 one). david said he would just refurb the TB and check the Throttle Pedal Pot for me.

a week later, i get them back, have them refitted but the CEL light is still on. the second SD2/3 diagnostic reads:

[the errors that come up:"1 DBW POTENTIOMETER""2 DBW POTENTIOMETER""ACCELERATOR POTENTIOMETER 1"]

at this point, the car still goes half limp when its run, and my mech decides to bypass the socket and add new earth to the wiring harness. car seems to run well after this.

but two days after getting it back, i am stopped at a traffic light at the base of a hill. take off when the lights change, but then the car goes full limp, and so i slide to the side to stop. i do a reset (car in N, ignition in MAR, step on pedal for 5 secs, release, and restart engine), and i am off again.

what pray tell would the problem be?

i've asked David Askew, who's equally stumped and asked that i plug in a simple OBD2 reader to reset the readings (but can't as mine is a pre-2000).

never stressed as much since the ex-wife. help, someone...

Hi Eldiablo,

Did David supply you with the contactless TB as supplied by Boomerang and Bill?

I'm not sure whether you are showing photographs of a general error check routine? but I believe it is possible to test just the throttle pedal potentiometer with the SD2/3.

If you carry out this specific test and it throws up the same errors in the throttle petal potentiometer, then I would think a new one is needed.

best of luck in getting it sorted.

i am told that the gbp330 refurb package, which i had paid for, may be the basic of three. didn't know

on possibly checking the tpp with the sd2/3 - not sure how and if it can be done.

hope to isolate the fault and get it sorted pronto. thanks emtee.

i would do a search for this problem as the brake pedal sensor does some weird stuff, i forget why but it does. i am not at home just now so cant get access to my code listing but i would also check the meaning of that code make sure its correct. have you checked fuses? quite often fuses blow ant can make it do weird stuff.
