Help! Broken down GS

Hoping someone can help...

I nipped out to a convenience store half an hour ago. Parked up, came back to the car and went to start her up. Ignition came on OK. Pressed the start button and then everything died.

I've got no power at all. Nothing. No lights on the dash, no clicking, everything completely dead.

Currently waiting for the RAC but has anyone got any ideas?

I thought it could be a fuse - but nothing in the handbook suggests that there's a fuse that would stop everything - not to someone of my limited technical knowledge anyway.

Any ideas would be very gratefully received!

Should also add that the battery was recently charged and I've been using the car for most of the day without a hitch...

I read your post Safrane and thought 'that can't be it - I tightened them up well when I reconnected the battery yesterday'.

Decided to check anyway and bingo.

Safrane if I ever meet you I'll buy you a large one.

Many thanks!

You are welcome...its a common issue. Hope to see you in the SW sometime as I spend my week days in London.

Where are you based?

Safely back home now, the RAC cancelled and the Maser back in the garage.

Was starting to wonder whether the car knew that earlier today I'd been wondering whether I could sell her and use the proceeds to put down a sizeable deposit on a Ghibli!

Was about to suggest the same thing as it happened to me too last week. Also check the piggyback terminals that are in the positive connector are right too.

On another note was out in the Alfa with Urby and Dem last week, stalled the car so violently that the spring connector on the negative terminal jumped off. Luckily I worked out quickly that it was this due to my GS issues the week before.

I'll be checking that everything's tight from now on - so much so that I'll probably end up shearing lots of nuts and bolts!

I had some battery terminal issues with my 3200 recently also. In my case, the positive terminal had been replaced in the past (it's easy to break the piggy back connection) and the new cable had been installed upside down! It led to intermittent poor starting and the engine light staying on for the first few hundred yards. Amazing what havoc something so simple can play!
