Hello - Thinking of upsetting my wife again.

Was thinking the same thing Matt...What is it worth....Love the 456...

Who knows? I doubt there has ever been a higher mileage one on the market. My initial thought were nobody would want it at sensible money so I thought of tidying it up and leaving it at our holiday home.

FYI (just in case anyone wants to bid) its a 2002 Modificato Auto in Tour de France blue (dark metallic) with full tan 'Daytona' seats, Alcantara headlining, a FULL set of Ferrari fitted luggage, full specialist service history and Ferrai 360 split rim alloys (plus originals with Winter tyres). Cosmetically the front is very stone chipped, the drivers seat has some wear to the bolster and there is some wear to the drivers carpet (hole in the heelpad). Mechanically is close to perfect, belts were last changed at 140k, good tyres, etc.

As soon as the wife gets back I will photo it.

Welcome Damon, the GT is a really nice car but not that fast. The 4.2 works really well in the lighter 4200 and GS, but the GT with its extra weight and auto box zaps all the power (so I am led to beleive) the one to go for is the savage 4.7 GTS with paddle shift and one of the best sounding exhausts you will come across.

I guess what worries me is not the speed but the torque - we have had torquey V12's and V8's and the modest torque figure of the 4.2 combined with the GT's weight could be very annoying, a 4.7 is out due to the gearbox - but what else do we buy? We need a 'discreet' coupe which does not have 'WAG' status (ie we dont want a Bentley) with sufficient legroom for my wife's 38'' inside leg, boot room and the ability to drive 400 motorway miles between fills.

Low mileage 456's are getting difficult to locate and are a little old style wise - if we buy a low mileage 456M we will then go thought teething issues as they are old 'garage queens' which have not been used regularly before they settle into reliable service.

Damon, they do the 4.7 with an auto box.

There is one under £60k with sensible mileage on it, maybe that might be the one for you, but you are looking at £15-£20k more.

If all you are after is a stylish cruiser then the 4.2 GT will suit you down to the ground, lovely car, well put together and finished off.

As with any heavy car, look at the breaks and make sure they are in good order as they are so, so expensive to replace, £3k all round I think and no, you cant buy the parts anywhere else but you local Maserati dealer.

So, your Fezzer with 160k interests me, well done for using it and not being afraid of putting mileage on here, so whats she worth?

Thanks Matt - I am not worried about routine maintenance as its the price you pay for miles - the one we are looking at has 12 months Maserati warrantee left which helps, the thing I am most concerned about is the torque. I hope a GT owner gets in touch so I can get info about what its like to live with on a day to day basis.

Please see the details on the 456M above.

Give me a mo, Ill go get it for you.

Thanks, also the other thing I was thinking about is I think I read somewhere about a force induction (supercharger) conversion. I have no details and may of just dreamt this up (given my perplexity for modding cars!)

Hmmm, £18k more but gives me something to think about, its not however the most practical colour interior given the mileage it will do but thank you very much.

Well, your modding history says it all.

If you were to add a single supercharger to the 4.2, you would get what, 550hp out of it, which would be more than enough to make it go ballistic.

There are other issues with the 4.2 as I have pointed out above, and that is the brakes. You would have to spend a fair bit there, my advice would be to do what Loz did and approach AP Racing and have them develop you a set, that way you but a bit of testing time in and the donation of your car, and you get the brakes for half the price. The other issue is that you would more than likely want to improve the GT suspension. This is easily done by retro fitting the MC Stradale kit at a price of circa £3k.

So add that lot on and you might as well buy a GTS auto with the same results and save yourself some money.

HOWEVER, I would like to see a supercharger on a 4.2, it might make the car better than the GTS, you just dont know.

....but where do you stop, you can then take the 4.7 and get it supercharged by Novitec, with mental results:

Matt,

Thanks for your input. I guess the logical way to go is to locate a 4.7 GTA but its going to cost £60-£65k, I love the look of the black/red car and if I get it at the price I bid would leave me enough time to upgrade over time the mods which are required (though it may be good enough as it is - difficult to know) .

When I test drove the 4.2 it didn't seem very fast but by the same token it didn't strike me as very underpowered either so, probably because of the sound track which made it sound quicker than it really is.....what to do? I can only hope a 4.2 GT owner responds on here to give their feedback.

Someone would want the 456 I would imagine as its the perfect spec by the sounds of things................But as you say if you can keep as well why would you nor want to..Such a pretty Ferrari.
