Heated/memory seats retrofit

Hey folks,

My tech cloth interior is in a bad way and I have been weighing up what to do with it, either get it retrimmed or replace the whole thing.

I've taken the plunge and bought the red leather with heated memory (mine doesn't have this) from an accident damaged GS that were on eBay. This interior needs a bit of work but I've always wanted the red leather. The question is - is heated memory functions plug and play? Will it just work and is the wiring harness there for the additional functions?

Suspect it is P&P, as per cruise control, but you may need to check the fuse in the box is up to the correct rating.

I also think the GS Seats are wider so you may get some rub on the original 4200 centre console unless this is being changed too.

Good idea to do the heater matrix whilst you are in there.

PS picks of the work in progress please.

Yes heater matrix already procured ready for the job. This is what I bought: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/154489002416 - got it for £1100 which seems reasonable, some repairs required.

This kit doesn't have the dash so I'm going to have mine retrimmed and while its out replace the matrix.

You can see the state of mine here. I'll probably just get all the cloth that has gone pink replaced with black leather or vinyl. It'll never look quite like a factory red leather car but red and black should work ok I think.

Yes, I saw that kit on ebay too... suspect some steaming will sort out most of the creases.

Think I would keep a black dash top and rear shelf if that's what you have already.

Kit has been on sale for an age so expect a few more storage marks than the pictures display. Hopefully a steamer will do the trick

Oh, and if anyone is after GS seats for their 4200, give me a shout. I will be taking my dash to a local trimmer anyway to get the tech cloth sorted and could possibly get the tech cloth replaced on the seats if someone is interested.

That looks pretty good Phil, you'll have to provide an update on progress once the new interior is in.

Hi Phil, what colour are the seats you are taking out? Presumably this will be both front and rear.

With all the treatments and dyes around these days I bet the tech cloth could be recoloured easily.
Tech cloth ages very poorly. From my experience it stains fast, gets saggy and leaves a lot of sticky residue. Replacing the center sections of the front GS seats is fairly easily and it’d look miles better than any tech cloth.

Thread update, dash is now out (see album above). I just about managed it without pulling the wheel boss off but that is definitely preferable.

I've now got to get the dash recovered, the plan is just to get it all black leather. I'm in two minds about the old seats. Just throw them on ebay and see if I get any interest as is, or get them fixed up so they are nice condition black leather seats. Does anyone have any idea on value of refurbed GS black leather front seats? Is there are market for these for those wanting the more supportive seats in a 4200?
