Headrest

Sounds a stupid question but how do you raise the headrest on a 2009 Grand Tourismo. I suspect they are fixed but would like to get them up to a normal height.

I always presumed they were fixed (had a 2008) and couldn't see any obvious way of adjustment.

Really? M5 had electric headrests and 99.9% of cars have a manual adjustment for them.

They don't go up but they do tilt. You must be very tall to have a problem with it - I find that my head hits the middle of the head restraint quit low down down but the top is still very high up and that's what matters in an accident.

Bigbob - my head is well over the top of the headrest so was worried that if i get a rear end shunt then it might be dodgy. Just have to drive faster then :)

Remember it's not the top of your head that matters as long as the middle is ok as your head would be thrown back and down in a shunt.

IIRC, the top of the head restraint should be above the top of your ear in order to prevent your head being thrown back over the top. This prevents even greater neck injuries including dislocated vertebrae.

I've just looked in the owners manual and, as Bigbob says, there is mention of tilting the headrests but no mention of height adjustment

Should be touching or close (1-2 cm) to the back of the head and it's best if the top is above the level of the eyes, apparently. The ROSPA website and the Canadian equivalent have info about it...
