Has anyone got a full size spare?

The widths may be different, but the overall circumference/height are the same.
First day with a hire car in Italy a couple of years ago I popped a sidewall on a hidden concrete plinth hidden in the long grass on our holiday camp site.
Gunk/foam would have been useless!
Fortunately the hire car had a space saver tyre.
Just one reason why I sorted a space saver for the Maser.

The intention was just to put a front 18" size alloy in the well (if it'll fit), buy a bottle jack and a wrench. As a spare to get you home (or onward journey) it must be better than a skinny spare??

It depends on whether the intention is get home on it or just get to somewhere with a new tyre. The skinny one would work for the latter, for the former its more about whether the current rear will fit in the well rather than the spare. Could have issues with what to do with it otherwise.

This is true, however I think even with a full boot the wider rear would fit temporarily, after all its only about 4cm wider...

What I don't want (as I had in my GTA) is the boot floor not being flat because I have a spare in it..
