This may well go down as the dumbest question so far - but what am I doing wrong?

The driver carpet has come loose. It has two clips on the rear that, I imagine, clip on spigots mounted to the floor (as per just about any other car). However, these are under the seat and I can't get to them even when the driver's seat is fully back. Is there something wrong with the seat causing it from going all the way back or is there a technique that I haven't got

That's normal.
You need skinny fingers or use a tool to help.

Raise the seat, but it doesn’t go back far enough to expose them, it’s lifts high enough to access though.
