Depends who is paying for the tyres and brakes. If it's you then a lighter car will always be a better experience.

+1. Perhaps if Maserati took a more helpful approach to pricing brake discs and pads then the GTS could be considered a more track-friendly car.

The old Trofeo's were around 1150 kilos, which is about a 500 kilo saving on the standard Coupe. That's a pretty good effort at weight-saving!

Does anyone know the weight difference between the current GT Trofeos and the MC Stradale?

Granturismo Trofeos are just 1400kg compared to the Strad at around 1800kg, if I remember correctly.

Weight distribution is also important. 3200's and Coupes are 55-45 balanced and that means they are easy to control and very easy to have some drift and dab of oppo fun. 911's on the other hand at 65-35 are more of a handful and liable to send you through a bus shelter or tyre wall backwards but more fun in the process.

2015 Trofeo car is 51.3% front / 48.7% rear, just to add some more info.

GTS with MC 'box is 47/53, which may give some clues as to which end had the most weight to lose.

I still maintain that the GTS, in road-going form, is not a great track car even if some people have the talent to make it perform beautifully. A talented driver would get a Fiat Uno faster round a track than I could get a 2015 Trofeo car round one, and he'd probably be kinder to the car in the process!

Just being pedantic as I feel that these things matter little at the margin but many brochures etc make much of it.

Fair point.

In the Trofeo 2015 specs, it doesn't say whether or not the car weight is quoted as wet or dry. However, it's certainly a good 400kg lighter than the Stradale.

Out of interest, does anyone know how much lighter the 911 GT2's and GT3's are compared to standard Carrera's? The MC Stradale is 5-6% lighter than a GT-S. Is it the same with the track-oriented versions of the 911?

The GT3s are actually similar on weight to their carrera counterparts. At around 1400kg they are relatively light to start with and a lot of the weight taken out is put back in in areas like stiffened body shells, weapons grade braking components and roll cages. The RS models tend to be a little lighter to the tune of 50-75 kg depending on spec as they have plastic rear windows for example. These cars can pound the Nurburgring all day and come back still feeling fresh with plenty of rubber and brakes left to drive home legally and safely. I think there is a bigger weight gap between GT2 and its Turbo counterpart as the GT2 drops the front drive shafts and remaining 4WD stuff.
