GT vs GTA - Main differences

Hey,

I'd sort of made my mind up that I wanted an auto Maserati but there are a lot of cars out there with a manual box with a very nice spec.

As I understand it the GTAs have a tendency to be a little more aggressive on the clutch but what are the real world differences of both? Is the clutch impressively heavy on a manual? Can you fudge the box and short shift to 5th really early and treat it like an auto (I can in my alfa, set off in 2nd or 3rd on gentle inclines and slap it straight into 5th gear or bumbling about mode as I like to call it which picks up without labouring the engine from below 20mph).

Our BMW is auto and I do really like it.

yes I'm lazy.

:D

The Manual 3200's IMO are very heavy on the left leg. I've got a 4200 manual now but they are usually ( I've driven 3 3200's ) much better than the 3200. I've never had an auto 3200. If it's within your reach, try to stretch to a post 04 4200 as they have a sorted gearchange. The early 4200's won't update software to the 05/06 standards like the post '04 cars. I have a manual but prefer the cc gearboxes personally.

Yep, the CC box is brilliant, ignore what that buffoon Clarkson says, and go test one.

If I was buying another 32, after owning a manual previously, I would definitely go Auto, the leg work out is just too much, so much, they are for ever ripping the ears of the clutch bearing, and rendering the car un movable.

Here is what happened to mine, oh, and its a pull clutch and I also have one in my Alfa GT and I really dont like them, they just dont have a definitive biting point, just sort of on/off.

A friend of mine has a Selespeed 147 that he let me have a go in, I found it quite strange in paddle mode but bumbling about in the city mode was very good. I was quite surprised by how 'clicky' the paddles on the alfa are, I was expecting them to move much more but to be honest they only move a couple of mm, almost like a button rather than a lever.
