Hi all,
Me and the Mrs are considering buying a project car to turn into a trackday car as a bit of an engineering challenge…she’s studying engineering and wants to work in F1..and I thought it would be a fun project for us both…
Naturally I’m thinking something a little different rather than a clio and considering buying a lower priced GS, ripping out the back seats and weight and having a fun project..
Anyone done similar on a project thread? Any words of wisdom? I know there’s a few higher mileage ones for sale at the moment but they might be a bit too nice to ruin? Or maybe not…
Cheers gents

Parts cost may make you baulk at using a GS as the platform.... but is you want to go that way the later 4200 are almost the same mechanical.

A salvage one might be an option for you. Keep an eye on copart and the like 4200 and GS's turn up from time to time that are worth repairing.

Good point on using a 4200 platform and copart….
Plan is something of a trofeo recarnation…

This sounds like a fun project! I track my car at the HPDE level, nowhere near racing in my proficiency, but thoroughly enjoy the 4200 on the track.
Interested in what you’re going to do for a setup beyond the weight reduction, and happy to share ideas, though mine will remain also a road car.

It really depends on your budget - as mentioned, parts are not cheap and you will definitely go through some parts if you do a few hard track days.

I have an E36 BMW for this kind of thing - parts are cheap and easy to replace.
