Sorry, I know this must have been covered elsewhere but having trouble getting anything concrete to turn up in the search, and being less knowledgeable than many here it's worth double-checking.

New battery time... After a bit of a research here this seems to be the solid choice:

BOSCH CAR BATTERY 12V 77AH TYPE 096 S5008
https://www.tayna.co.uk/car-batteries/bosch/s5008/

Is there anything I need to remember to do when changing over, other than:
  • Driver's door down a couple of inches
  • Turn off at isolator switch
  • Don't cross the streams

While you are in there, worth swinging down the F1 pump relay and fuse base so easier accessible and not so tucked out of reach.

I would go for the Bosch S5007 Type S5007 . The height dimension is 175mm against 190mm for the 096 which gives just a little more room beneath the relays. CCA amps is 750 and amp hour is 72 so more than the battery that was fitted from the Factory. Varta Batteries do an equivalent No E38.

Thanks for this everyone. Surprisingly easy with that tip about getting the boot trim out of the way. Not sure I'd have rated my chances at not using some choice language without it.

The Bosch S4 in my 4200 was fitted in 2014 and has survived until now, having been on a continuous Ctek charger for the last 4 years, but recently has been showing that it cannot maintain a strong enough charge when left off the charger. I fitted a replacement Bosch S5008 over the weekend to take advantage of the higher 780A rating. Yes, removal of the boot trim is necessary and the battery only just fits in the space. I found that to squeeze it in, the relay assembly had to be levered upwards, a manoeuvre that made me slightly apprehensive, but no ill effects were apparent once the isolator switch was re-activated. All systems go!
