Agreed.... bragging rights only

I've met a lot of car owners who have never been on a track, but yet have superior driving skill to others, when meat measuring is involved.

The reality sets in when a car with much less power passes with ease. I'd have a good guess that those that have track or race experience driving a 4.2 will comfortably beat those in a 4.7.

Looking at fastest laps, hockenheim short, the 4.2 is almost a second slower than the 4.7. now count 1 second in your head, imagine a car going by with a second car l, a second later. Not long is it?

On the road no difference. On the track....

@bigbadwedge400 do you know the 4.7 only has a few extra hp.... Unlikely to be noticeable on the road.

Driven both and you can…Everything about it is an improvement over the 4.2 and worth stretching the budget if you can. It wasn’t just about the engine but also the gear box changes that made it feel more engaging that the 4.2 which made it feel
More if a drivers car. It’s the car that the original GT should have been when released as the 4.2 was a strange one as it was slower not as agile as the GS it was suppose to replace but to be honest it wasn’t really a GS replacement as it was just too big and became a different car to that one.

It is mate had what it needed it's whole life and been dry stored absolutely solid throughout not actively trying to sell as I do love driving her but the roads round here are terrible so my s class makes more sense to keep than the maser.

Talking of bragging, Spoons dear. Your Granturismo jigsaw puzzle isn't the cheapest in the country any more.
Unless it was less than the £13k and change that the comedian on Autotrader is selling his for.
That was an exceedingly short claim to 'fame'.

thanks so the post, much appreciated. Really have my mind set on a 4.7 and want a light colour (seeking white!).

Never really quite understood wrapping, unless the car was in bad shape (which yours certainly isnt!)

I think the cheapest went through brighouse 2 years ago at 11k if I remember correctly

Seems to me there's engine power, torque curve, gearshift speed, steering rack speed, suspension stiffness and suspension geometry. All affect the driving experience and particularly the engagingness of the conversation between car and driver.
I would be surprised if Maserati ever let a bad one out of the factory.
I have the most fabulous conversations with my 4.2 ZF even though it is probably the bottom of the Maserati pile. A Duoselect/MC shift or a 4.7 (both shorthand for a whole host of tweaks to some or all of the above, and maybe the exhaust too) would almost certainly be even better. But I have absolutely nothing to complain about, love the conversation and am still learning more about how to drive it every month.

My wife says I have been a happy chap since the arrival of my Maserati. :)

That's why I dated the post, so it shall remain.

I don't need any claim to fame. I stared in a well know TV show for years along with other spoons

Just fancy a different look but wanted to be able to go back to original, well that and I arranged a barter deal with the guy on a mid rise scissor lift so wasn't costing much.
