I'm looking for a car with a sense of mechanical purity and experience.

Possibly S1 Exige, V12V, 550 Maranello, maybe Esprit Sport 350.

Thoughts welcome.

Try a Stradale before you jump from the brand. It’ll knock your socks off.

I do like your Aston rjohn however i fear they will drop value quickly, especially here in the UK where they have been moved using amazing finance deals which just pushes the resale value down.
I agree probably worth checking out the MC Stradale as the performance difference is marginal from the F430 with the Strad lapping a 1:23 vs the F430 1:22.9 so basically nothing. Plus you get the much better exhaust sound in the Strad in race mode.

Whilst the Vantage above is lovely I can’t help feel it’s lots some of its beguiling charm.
Those front and rear plasticy aero bits make it look like it’s been to the local cosmetic surgeon who has cartoonishly added em........way way too much imo.

I love it Wattie but can see why some wouldn't especially after the perfectly formed last one. I think it can be colour sensitive and for me looks much better in the flesh and taking in the detail than it does in pictures........The interior is busy compared to the very lovely minamalistic last Vantage and it was always going to be hard to beat the last Vantage looks wise but I think they have managed to make a modern looking car which is aggressive rather than elegant like the last one. The front I suppose will always divide option....Aston also for me priced the car too high and it should have always started about 100k to 110k and I think they realised as this year they dropped the price by 15k....The price they are at now used seems like the right price for a new one. Although options as silly and there is a new Coupe for sale at a dealer for 160k....There is a lot of cars you can get for this money rather than an entry level Vantage....A used DBS for example.....This one I think is rather lovely in blue though at 94k........

I had an S1 Exige...Purity was it's middle name...No driver Aids just you and your driving skill..Loved it and used it daily which many weren’t. It was an occasion on every trip strapping yourself into those bucket seats with that harness. The handling was something else and it was a quick car especially on those twisty roads....Lots of fun.....Mine was the 190BHP and that makes that K series engine highly strung. It was typical old school with a lumpy tick over and no polish to it what so ever. It was also very loud in the cabin as well...My wife used to wear ear plugs if we went far in it.......It’s an old car now but was not expensive to run and on the right road when you are in the right mood you will smile all day.....and then you stand back and look at those mini Le Mans looks and you smile even more.......You hear race for the road lots but this was...but probably more race track as this is were it shone ever more.

I had a Mrk2 Exige after it and although it was much easier to live with and that Toyota engine was a better power unit it never delivered the sense of occasion like the first one......plus add the fact I think it’s a safe bet money wise it’s got to be worth a look.......Hard to find good ones though and not many for sale......

As you can see I loved mine but after all that though I would go V12V in that list......for me the most beautiful car on the roads....

Anyway here was mine...

A 4 seat front engine just doesn’t feel the same as a 2 seat mid engine. The 0-60 is not where it’s always at.
i don’t think coming from a GTS, the strad will feel as exciting as a 430. My 2p

The best spec V12 S has just come up for sale.

https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202012237354450

There are some great v12 s’ at £70-£75k. That would be my pick. Properly fast.

I find myself in a similar situation with a slightly different list. v12 vantage S, gen 2vanquish, gallardo (facelift), f430 or all out for the FF.
How lucky are we, especially in these times.

That looks incredibly cheap for such a thoughtfully spec’d car. Good to see it’s been used, too.

Flugplatz Blue is a great colour, but I could easily imagine it putting many buyers off. Likewise the lightweight seats - rare, apparently extremely comfortable but lacking airbags and heating so many would be deterred. A manual would annoy me when I know the SSiii is better 90% of the time (for me, anyway), but overall I’d say that car’s well worth a very close look.

Totally agree regarding the manual, I’m not a good enough driver to get the most out of it, sport shift is great once you get used into it!

Too bad for the lambo colour !!

The first Vantage I looked at was a Flugplatz blue roadster with lightweight seats. Whilst it looked excellent it would have stood out like a sore thumb parked by my house in a quiet country village.

Agree, looks like an design idea out of the civic type R

For me AM design kind of peaked around 10 years ago.

Would agree that the SS is the one to go for. The Manual was made to get rid of the last cars and because loyal customers had asked for it....Its for the committed as heard lots saying that the amount of times they had stalled the car at low speeds was embarrassing. Save lots and get the China Grey V12V S at Reading Aston Martin...79k...

This is a good little video on why a V12V Sportshift is the one to go for. Listen to the thoughts from the commentator and the sales chap sales chap on the manual.......

And here’s the advert for the Reading one....Always like China Grey on these. The only thing missing for me are the carbon seats but they are harder to find.......Suppose to be more comfortable than the standard seat and look stunning.....
