Granturismo gearbox stuck in 4th gear :(

Hi guys, bit of an odd one.

After a bit spirited driving on Sunday, when on the paddles from 3rd to 4th gear the car lurched a bit and then all the warning lights you can think about came up on the dash and it stuck in 4th gear.

When in drive only it now seems its stuck in 4th and when on the paddles it wont select anything but 4th gear.

Can only think its poss limp home type mode, not had chance to get on a diaog machine yet as busy with work.

Ill be taking on Monday, but thought worth asking if anyone else heard of a problem like this on a 2007 Granturismo 4.2 auto gear box model.

Thank you for any help/pointers :)

Not sure about the 4.2, Mike, but have you tried the battery reset option?

Where are you based, by the way?

Hi, yes ive done the battery reset, took terminal off for a few hours then fired it back up and fault still is there.

I am in Manchester so i have Autoshield to use or a friend of a friend works at HR Owen Maserati who also i could use.

Just thought post up if anyone else has comes across it before hand.

When in auto mode (D) it sets off but is slow pick up and it sounds and feels like its in 4th gear.

Then when you select paddles its in 4th on the dash display.

Odd one, not a common fault from having a google etc....

Ill have to get it in for diaog at Maserati or Autoshield on Monday and see what they say.

You may be better off finding a ZF gearbox specialist instead of a Maserati workshop

When was it last serviced/when was the fluid level on the box checked/when was the fluid last changed?

Hi guys just thought post quick reply in case anyone else finds this thread in the future.

Took it to H.R Owen, the new one at Stockport next to Lamborghini.

They diagnosed with a MAF sensor, which i thought how the **** would that make it stick in 4th gear.

Well they said it went into a limp mode and this needed changing.

So its had a new one and yes they were correct its all fixed and running fine again.

So bill for hundreds not thousands.... i thought was looking at some serious gearbox work, so very happy with the result.

Thank you for all the replys, Mike

Thats very weird. 4th gear seems an odd one to pre select for limp home mode. Surely it would be easier to limit the revs in the ECU instead for limp home mode and allow all gears or at least the first four gears.

Still its fixed and not to big a bill so much better news.

What colour is your car mike ? I saw a GT on Monday in the stockport area.

I'm even surprised it goes into limp mode with a knackered MAF it should just go to s default safe 'map' and throw up a warning light.
At least it was a cheap fix though

There are a million oddities. If the ZF box gets over voltage it locks into 3rd or 5th. Why? *No* idea

An odd explanation but a good result for you, it could have been so much more costly
