Hi there,
I am new to this forum and site and have been interested in a 2012 Granturismo sport (updated version to the S), but can’t seem to find much on the reliability of these later cars. Are they more reliable than the S? Are they a reliable car in general? And what are the common faults? Any advice and knowledge will be greatly appreciated.
By budget is around 30-40k if that helps anyone’s judgement.

Thanks

Jamie, I had my 2014 GTS for 2 years and about 12k miles, having bought from Richard Grace at 4 years old with 12k on the clock. No problems. Suspect by the time of a facelift most were ironed out and I am pretty confident that the expensive variator fix doesn't affect them but others will confirm. Give Richard a call as he is a great source of information and only sells cars that are spot on. He may even have something for you! Good luck, You won't regret buying one. Nothing comparable for the money.

Furthermore how much do you pay for servicing and how much would you say you spend on it per annum? I’m curious as I use to daily an m5 touring (now nicely tucked away in the garage- Might possibly go for sale) and I’m curios how it compares, granted quite different cars but still rather pricey when things go wrong, which tended to be quite a lot... lol !

I've got a 2012 GT Sport with the auto box. I've replaced the suspension bushes as they do wear on all GTs and it feels a lot better. I've also had a water leak but that was due to the standard quality hose used, I replaced it with a triple ply silicone type. This is an isolated event and not a common fault.
As with many Maseratis of all ages, lack of use means battery discharge levels, which often throws up strange faults but it's due to the low charge state of the battery and the monitoring system throws a wobbly. Mine was SORN through winter bug I gave it weekly exercise much to the annoyance of my neighbours and it keeps the rust off the brakes a circulates the fluids.
Speaking with non-maserati owners I hear a lot of woes with other marques but the Maserati engine is simply bulletproof, bad the variator issues but that's been solved on GT Sports.
£30-40k should get you a decent model but speak with Dicky. He's the Man.

I ran an M6 V10 as a daily 10 years ago and did 24k miles in it without issue but was always prepared for the nasty surprise related to the VANOS or SMG.

For a later model GTS, I would us a specialist (not sure where you live but you will find a lot of fans on here for about 7 or 8 of them around the country (such as AV, Autoshield, Emblem, SportsItalia, Migliore, McGrath, Shilltech etc) and budget about £1k for a 12k/2yr service. Any of those will give you guidance I am sure. Tyre costs are probably the same as the M5, brakes pads ok if you go EBC (OEM at £500+). The key rule is to buy a good one in the first place.

I live Suffolk/Essex border and I believe there’s a good specialist in a place called Halstead forgotten his name though. But yes I can’t imagine a GTS being much more expensive than the Beamer yearly. Thanks

Do you mind saying how much over the years of ownership you spend on it a year

Thank you
Do you have many GTS come in in the 30-40k price range. A lot of people I’ve seen on this site highly recommend you and would give me peace of mind when buying!
Jamie, yes we do. I have one in at the moment, and our gallery shows our historic sales:

Welcome JamieP
Another vote for Richard Grace. He sold my old Stradale and I purchased my California from him. He will only sell a car if it's in A1 condition.
Very easy to deal with and quite honest for a car dealer :p:D

Welcome, you have been given some great advice. I've had mine nine years and it has not cost a silly amount with the two year servicing helping. Buy a Sport if you want one but my understanding is that reliability is strong irrespective of year of build for these cars....variators aside but that is easily investigated on engine number.

Any advice is to try to find a lowish miles one. Mine had some issues due to its age and mileage. But i put aside a decent amount of money to cover expected and unexpected bills and so far it's ok. After replacing some wear and tear parts and full service the next few years should be better.

Kinda depends on what you can find, there was not a lot for sale when I bought. And I quite like the idea that i now really know that most running parts have been replaced and serviced properly.

Is that a GTS ?

Nope a 4.2. But running costs and wear and tear parts are basiccly the same. I do have an auto since i didnt want the clutch maintenance bills.
Okay I guess yeah servicing and parts are same cost, however I believe some problems were ironed out as mentioned above ?
