Gransport Stalling

I might have the start of a problem on my GS.

I have noticed that occasionally I can stall the car. It happens during manoeuvring the car, ie first and reverse.

Now it does not happen much but just twice so far in the past week. No engine lights and the car drives normally.

I suppose to stall the car, the clutch might not be disengaging correctly????

Any pointers appreciated.

Thats one thing i can honestly say Matt that ive never come across , my first thoughts would be fuel/ignition failure other wise if it was clutch /F1 pump/gearbox related YOU WOULD definately get a cc box light

Matt can you remember the condition of the gear display when it happened , did it flick into neutral automatically after it stalled or was 1st/reverse still showing , could just possibly be something to do with the switch on the brake footpedal

Probably a red herring but does it only happen when you are on full lock? If so then may point to issues with your idle speed??

Good call nfm.......do the revs die just at that moment.......or no warning?

Two things worth knowing/checking:

1) make sure battery terminals are secured. If not, the car can stall due to this. Has happened to me before.

2) If you stall and can't restart (possible), then lock the doors and then unlock again. It's a known trick, heaven knows how it works but it does.

Thanks guys.

No engine light, no CC light and has happened when parking, so slow speed manoeuvres. Turn ignition off, then back on again and its still in the gear I left it in, so this indicates to me that the drivetrain caused the stall.

NFM
Its whilst parking so not full lock just when flicking between 1st and Reverse, but I like your thinking.

I will check the battery terminals. I can restart straight away, so no need to lock/unlock.....just checked the terminals, rock solid.

If I was a guessing man, I would suspect the hydraulic system, not disengaging the clutch quick enough, hence the stall.

Might be time to replace the relay and keep an eye/ear on the CC pump, but I do this whenever I first start it or open the door. I get a full 5 seconds of the CC pump priming.

It could always be my style of driving. I do tend to dab the gas when doing slow speed manoeuvres, Ill see if I can get it to happen again.

Hello from the other side of the pond Folks.

I am having a similar issue on the 05 QP Sport that I recently bought. Never such a problem on my 05 Coupe.

Matt- what was the ultimate basis for this trouble???

Many thanks in advance!

In a word, lack of use. It got left outside all winter and not used, so I think the clutch first motion shaft got some corrosion/tarnishing on it, causing a lazy clutch, using it stopped it overnight.

Thanks matt.love the italians :)

Dug into the battery area again.noticed positive terminal connection had slid up post.so clamp was tight, but almost off the top of the post.

Tightened her up properly, and so far so good.

Not e to self: don't just check by checking battery clamp tightness.
