Flood damage - compulsory break. Engine running fine. Shame:

http://eurospares.co.uk/breaking2.asp?page=60

Sorry to go breaking a few hearts , but i know this car very very well , so well in fact im grateful to it , the complete front, bonnet, wings. front and rear bumpers, headlights , side skirts, steering wheel, and steering rack are happily attached to my 4200 , that picture is about 3 years old ,

Just to put you in the picture , i knew the car was coming in as James Pumo had kindly told me roughly when it was arriving, i turned up on the day at 7am in the morning at Roberto's (grimaldi's workshop) , 7.45 am the car arrived on the back of a trailer by 8am it was off and on the ramp in Robs workshop, when James arrived , a deal was struck and the go ahead given to start on the car , it was supposedly flood damaged ,but not a sign of a slightest drip inside the car or the engine bay , obviously the battery was flat , so after Rob quickly removed the spark plugs and rigged up the booster charger, the engine whizzed over and spattered the minutest amount of water out of the cylinders, when it was eventually clear some 30 seconds later, after a little oil in each pot we both replaced the plugs surprised that there was nothing more seriously wrong, fixed all the leads back in place, I sat inside and turned the key whilst Rob watched over the engine , all the right dash lights came on and then went out as normal, Then Rob gave the signal to push the starter and sure enough after 3/4 revolution the baby fired into life spewing water out of the exhausts for around 30 seconds and that was it , we ran it for around 5 mins and all was sound as a pound . James Pumo had heard the noise and came over with a grin a mile wide , a big bonus for him as he now had a complete engine forsale which was presumed f..ked , as i said the deal had already been struck , and James gave the go ahead for me and Rob to strip it ,

Believe me its was sheer sacrilege, in every respect the car was mint outside and inside and here we were about to strip it to the bone , it was an agrreement on the purchase that the monocoque had to be returned to the insurance company within 14 days

By 11 am i was traveling home in my van with all the bits for my 4200 , a good few grand lighter i can tell you , but atleast i had them all in one go

Shouldn't think there's much left of it now

That's an odd one Loz - any idea why it was a compulsory breaker (is that Cat B?), rather than a Cat D repairable?

None of us, Roberto, James Pumo and me couldn't understand the rhyme or reason , other than the insurance co used a **** assessor , but was covered under Gap insurance
i saw the history booklet in the car , so we were all puzzled and none the wiser to this day , i have seen other flood damaged Gransports since and both had more damage and they were cat D there is no rhyme or reason to how they Cat cars nowdays seems different insurance companies have different guidelines
