Chaps,

I thought this may be a likely location for recommendations on eateries in Florence.

I'm off there next week for 9 nights as a base for a bit of touring (via train).

Is there anywhere you can think of that is not covered by the tripadvisor?

If you get up to Modena i could dig out some names of a couple of fabulous restaurants , bit pricey tho but the food is 2nd to none , do the factory tours mazza and fezza whilst your there , and Bologna just 20 odd miles away , again great place for food and a superb opera house if your into that sort of thing

I did the Ferrari one in June...it was an amazing experience....

How much do they go into the engineering, i dont really carry a flame for the marque, but them Im not into F1 and had a tour of the Mclaren Technology Centre and it was fantastic from an engineering perspective.

You go through start to finish on the production line from engine assembly to final car assembly and then onto the test track and the Client racing cars..........It last for around 3 hours.........It isn't easy to get a tour. You need to go through a Ferrari dealer to set up...Or go direct to Ferrari Europe.....Think it's the same with Maserati...dealer is you first port of call I would say.......

More details here if interested...

Mandy at Marranello's Egham is a good lass, she could organise your tours for both Ferrari and Masserati if you mention the forum

Got an email from Maserati today saying that factory tours are only open to current Maserati owners, so I'll have to put that on hold until I actually own one. :D

Thanks for the help

Always remember, Florence is geared for tourists. I never got on with it, or Pisa, which isn't far away. Best food, is in the local towns and villages, especially the ones, up the Carrera Mountains. Watch them create the food infront of you!

Im figuring that out now, our hotel is a 5 minute walk from the ponte vecchio and on our first day here a meal in the piazza republica consisting of two sandwiches, a shared jug of water and two coffees cost just short of 50 euros.

Inexpensive this is not, but my god is there a lot to see and do, been to free open air orchestral concerts in the piazza della signoria last couple of evenings. Fabulous.

No car, this is first time we've been to italy so its more of a recon mission, saying that... recon turned into a tactical urban strike on the Panerai boutique yesterday.

How I managed to convince the wife I do not know :D

Loz, cheers for the offer but they wanted a copy of e registration document sending to them via fax/email so I dont think that would have worked.

Cheers all
