Without the caveat of only having a few photos, a low mileage diesel with decent spec can be had from a main dealer for £40k. Accounting for the repair, and assuming it's not cat listed, I reckon you'd look to get that for £29-32k.

What do you reckon?

A boot, light and paint will cost £3-4k to do properly.

Thats about where I would put it, no more. I could get the whole car painted and repaired for £4k.

The bits aren't expensive on these new cars, I have seen used bumpers with minor scuffs on them going for only a couple of hundred quid each online which means the retail is low too.

Perhaps Maserati have dropped the prices for the spares of cars aimed at fleet markets to make them more attractive?

I have an account with them.
CAP clean £41400 and £40k average.
3 areas of damage as shown and all tyres over 5mm.
Grade 3 car and I have the new reg number if anyone was interested.

I believe it says what you say but I fail to understand why a car which lists at just over £50k new and could be had for £45k max as a factory order would trade at £41.4k when a few months old.

Quite agree but the vagaries of "book" prices!
Can work the other way more often for some prestige cars.

It makes me wonder how a car that new ends up in a salvage auction with such minor damage

Even if they were getting ripped off by the body shop I can't see that repair being more than 25~30% of its value

Insurance companies use secondhand panels these days , even if it was 10k to fix it you'd think they'd go for it , the problem is the owner probably doesn't want it back so gets an accident management company involved who negotiates an expensive like for like hire car

I don't understand insurance. It looks like the guy reversed into something pretty minor.

I don't either, it's a mad world where a driveable 45k car with a bit of a dent is a write off

I think some insurance companies will replace with a new car if it is damaged in the first 12 months from new in their policies.

I thought they gave a new car if written off or stolen (ie they don't source a for example 6 month old car to replace a written off 6 month old car they would just replace with a brand new one).. not just for damage.

Why do you think it is a salvage auction?
This is their normal Wednesday sale unless I am missing something?
Also why do you think it is an insurance write off?
Car is being sold by John Clark Motor Group so would suggest it is a trade in they don't want.

Its hard to tell from the pictures but it looks like new boot new light cluster and possibly new bumper although the picture of the bumper is really not clear but it looks like its flexed and damaged the paint. Main dealer repair would run into thousands by the time you have factored in the paint costs on top of the parts and labour. So yes i would expect the insurance to write off on a car that 3 month old. Its probably more cost effective for them.

You would think the auction site would give more details of the damage.
