Good review. How did he get 20,000 miles out of the rears though? I got a little over 10,000.

Interestingly I get similar mph out of the S on a run. Less around town though. I do get less the more I engage sport mode.

That's a very good write up from a proper owner....Certainly makes you think the petrol is the one to have. Thanks for posting.

Good real world review - can't imagine how sport mode would give better economy! I'm pretty sure the higher revs and more readily available downchanges would more than offset a minuscule reduction in exhaust back pressure.

Sport mode in my S saw consumption drop significantly. Can't imagine the standard petrol would be different. I struggled to average much more than 16mpg if sport mode used regularly. And I averaged better than that in a GTS!

*phew* someone with a heavier foot than me. I've only managed to get it lower than 20 when driving up and down mountain passes ;)

Bloody **** that is surprise. 16 !!!! You expect more from a car in that sector....A good advert just to get a GT instead.

LPG it!
This guy http://www.go-lpg.co.uk/ does a lot of high end stuff, he's in the Stag Owners Club too (with me having a Stag) and has done it for years.
If I was doing the miles would not hesitate would pay for itself in a year!....especially in a QP or Ghibli once out of warranty.

Except a GT doesn't have 4 doors so not really comparing like with like. I would guess most people buy a Ghibli as an alternative to other 4 door cars not as an alternative to a GT.

And I suspect if you drove any of the equivalent high powered/large engined petrol alternatives pretty hard, you wouldn't fair much better

I track my mpg with every fill, and based on the actual figures not the fiction from the onboard computer. The worst fill up I've had was 18 mpg, which was after the San Bernardino Pass, the best was 29.5 mpg after the initial run down through France. Over the six months, and 12500 miles, I've owned my Ghibli I'm averaging 23.35 mpg.

I don't drive slowly but tend not to break speed limits, except when trying to follow Benny, and I do accelerate (which explains the rear tyre wear). I think its pretty good for a 404 hp 2 tonne car. Its 11 mpg less than I used to get out of the 168 hp Giulietta which was a much smaller engine which stop/start and all of that nonsense.

Drove my mates Ghibli V6 petrol at the weekend (not the S). What a great interior, the new infotainment screen is very nice and it just seemed like a nice cabin to be sat in. Lack of paddles is frustrating though, can't understand why Maserati didn't make them standard in what is supposed to be a sports saloon. The drive itself, well, I can only describe it as 'meh'...seemed sluggish and needs to be revved to get it moving. Kickdown took forever, which made overtaking a chore. Exhaust sounded nice for an exec saloon but I did expect a meatier growl but then again, I've been spoiled with the Larinis on my GS. Wallowed in the corners, expected it to be a lot tighter. Would be interested to see what the S drove like. Having driven the diesel as well, I can see why a lot of people say that the diesel is the one to go for.

A positive comment on the Diesel. I am pleased people are starting to see the light!!
