Ghibli II boost gauge

Sorry to start with a help request, but as I am trying my best to find a Ghibli to buy, I´ve run into a case like this.

Does anyone have any clue why the boost gauge is acting like that? The car has been sitting for at least eight months, and one of the intercoolers has been off, due a fender bender repair. It runs ok, and seems to have enough power (spins it´s wheels on tarmac, when coming to boost on second gear).

Any ideas?

It's been a while since I've had a turbo but that looks ok to me. You will only register boost if you are accelerating in gear as the extra fuel burnt will create the exhaust gasses needed to spin the turbine fast enough to produce boost. The boost gauge falls with the revs as there is a vacuum and when the revs stabilise, there is fuel flow which causes the boost gauge to flick up to where it started. As for the suspension; not a clue. Sorry.

.....in that case Grasshopper, tread very carefully when test driving! Yes, I'm pretty sure you will only produce meaningful boost when under load.

Hi Finlandese

The gauge is just a simple barometric tube connected to a rubber vacuum pipe. Your symptoms appear to indicate an air leak either in the pipe or failure of the tube. What position does the gauge show when the engine is not running?

For details on the suspension take a look at this page on Enrico's site.

Scroll down LH menu to "Can you help"? and select Ghibli II.

I know little at best at best about how these cars operate but had a similar problem with my cup car and it needed attention. The car would not accelerate properly and was told so "clean the system out" as it had been standing for some time. If you accelerated the car performed like a norm 2 litre normally aspirated car i.e the turbo did not kick in. The problem was a hole in the exhaust on the top of it it hidden by the body kit. The exhaust needed replacing and the car worked fine afterwards. Well might not be the same problem if the car accelerates properly but I would get it checked out just in case.
