Good evening
Any one of you I manage to update software version and map. I have a issue since few day, my car move outside the map when I go to a Costa drive on a new estate and don’t come back on the road properly, never had that before but my areal has been move for put a sticker of the roof.
After a lot of research i have this information
model CTP16
SV 6.10
GPS 4.15.06
on the dealer mode : map version 2014

i live far away of a Maserati dealer and I don’t want to be rip off with their cost.
i can buy online if need

best regards

That sounds like you GPS antenna is playing up. Before you do anything its worth disconnecting the battery and leaving it for 20 mins or so to reset the system.

If its still not working you can buy a replacement GPS antenna for around £8 - £10 on ebay. I mounted mine under the center dashtop vent on a 4200 a few years ago.

If you can live without the updates and its just the antenna at fault. Map update are expensive and your phone nav will be better.

Thank for your reply, the GPS in the Ghibli, it is not in the areal ?

when I go to see my nav position, I can see that, do you think it is fine.

my map is from 2014, not too old ?

best regards

Dear Paul

today I drove where a new road has been built in my area, this road was on my map before my area was disconnected for put my sticker, it look as I lost a map, any idea for recovers this map.

also if you have a Maserati ghibli 2014/2015, can you confirm the colour of your GPS signal, because they talk about green but mine is hollow, when my car move the GPS position move on my car but never catch up with the same street if I go somewhere not on the map

I think we had option to buy map and I bought one or the dealer did a update when it did a service

Yes its in the roof mount triangle aerial. Replacement cost is £70 plus or you could use a univeral one and mount inside the cabin for around £10.

The screen shots you have posted show that your not getting a satelite signal. Assuming your not parked in a garage when you took the picture then its showing its not receiving a signal.

The system checks for signals from several satelites it needs a minimum number to work and then accuracy improves the more signal locks it gets.

Screen shot below shows what you should see. Each bar represents one satelite and the height of each bar shows the signal strength for each satelite.

77829

The car needs to be under open sky for the sat nav to work properly. If its under a canopy or garage you will get a weak signal or no signal.

Assuming your parked in the open has it ever worked since you had the car ?

If it was just the maps needed updating then when your on a newly built road it would show on the sat nav as being off road but still show your location. As soon as your back on an older road it would show you as being on the road again.

@Chicken13 ive just read your original post again.

Are you saying you have had a vinyl wrap or decals put on the roof and they moved the aerial when it was done ?

If so it looks like they have either not connected it back up correctly or the vinyl is covering the internals of the gps antenna and its now not able to recieve a signal.

Where abouts in the world are you ?

Map updates in the UK are dealer only now as far as im aware and around £400 a few years ago.

In all honesty i would live with the maps being out of date and just fix the issue of no gps signal.

Dear spkennyuk

it look like you are in uk as me. My car are a vinyl but since few year now and never had a issue. I decide to change the flag sticker ( see pics ). For that they disconnect my areal and put the new sticker and since that my GPS don’t work properly has mentioned

when you say I can buy a cheap universal one, can you advice one, because for £10/20 I can always buy one and try this way.

best regards

I am not sure if my GPS is faulty, just been to the car, you have 2 options under GPS simularor
1/ on
2/ off

when I put on, I have no blue bar on the screen under acquiring satellite
If I put off, I have the blue bar moving for position

also I passed near a new road in my area, this road is not on my sat nav but I am sure it was last week before to disconnect the areal

I am pretty sure I pay for updates my map 2 or 3 years ago

I am just thinking maybe something we did was wrong and I lost my map and now I am back to my old map and the car lost sat nav when I drive on road not on my map

I put few pics for you can look

best regards

That screen is for the simulation mode or route planning.
The OFF setting is for using the sat nav and connects to the gps satelites. Which is the normal mode.

The ON setting is for planning a route without gps connection so you can plan your route.

If its in the off position and your seeing the blue bars moving then your GPS antenna is trying to work and get a lock on the satelites. If i remember correctly it needs to get a lock / high signal on either 5 or 7 satelites minimum but can recieve upto 12. If its not getting a lock on the minimum number of satelites then the home screen signal bars will remain grey and hollow. Once the minimum number of satelites is achieved it will turn green and show between 1 and 5 bars as the number of connected satelites increases.

The aerial on the roof is connected via a long extention cable to the back of the NIT which is behind and below the info screen. From what i can see its a fakra connector for the GPS.

If your sure it was working before your italian stripe was put on then it really could be as simple as taking it back to whoever put the stripe on and get them to check the aerial connection its either not connected properly or its been damaged while they removed it.
Hopefully its just the connector has unseated.

If that doesnt solve the problem. Then its either a replacement roof aerial at £70 plus or a cheap univeral one.

If you go down the cheap universal route then you need to be comfortable taking the infotainment bezzle and screen off so that you can access the NIT. You can dash mount the new GPS antenna and route the cable to the back of the NIT.

Have a look at the screen shots above. The first picture is the back of the NIT you can see the blue GPS connector on the left side at the bottom.

2nd picture is the connector plug on the gps antenna in picture 3.

The maps not being upto date is a seperate issue. If you cant get the system to pick up the satelite signals the latest maps will do nothing as the sat nav wont be able to use them except for route planning (simulation) mode.

Dear spkennyuk

thank so much for the explanation and I think I understand better now.

one of my option is to buy the cheap one and see if the signal come back in my car ? From the pic below when you have a signal , this arrow need to be green ?

if it work with the cheap sat nav satellite gps, it will means something has been wrong when my areal has been move and I will have 2 option

remove again the areal and make sure everything is correct and connect

buy a new areal and connect, where do you find the one you advice me at less of £100

thank a lot for your help

best regards

Your getting a weak signal on your GPS antenna. Each blue line represents 1 satelite but it needs 4 of those to be full to pinpoint the cars position.

I suspect when they removed and/or replaced the roof aerial that the connector was either damaged or not pushed back together correctly and thats the route of the issue.

Once the cheap GPS antenna arrives and its working you may be able to use it to fix your existing aerial. By taking the base plate off the old aerial and see if there is enough room to fit the new gps antenna to the base plate and then put the cover back onto the base plate.

You may need an adapter to plug into the extention aerial cable but its a possible option.

The original aerial will just have the gps antenna attached to the baseplate but should be a similar size.

Its esentially single coax cable. For testing purposes you can probably use a male to male satelite cable connector.

You can get an adapter like this one.
Whats the connector in the back of the nit ? Its female in the picture i posted.

If it has a pin in the middle its a male Fakra connector. If it has a hole its female Fakra connector.

Have you accesses the back of the NIT behind the touch screen ? I cant see in your pictures what your trying to connect it to in the car.
