Front Sway Bar Alert

Good afternoon Maseratii,
I have just installed a two post hoist in my workshop, and of course tried it out with the Maserati and as an opportunity to look at the running gear etc. On inspection I found the front passenger side (RHD cars) sway bar connector loose, and the cup of the connector broken. No noticeable affect on drivability, but having this item loose under the car is not good. Whilst underneath I also noticed an oil leak on the rear passenger side head gasket, which is annoying. Sometimes, ignorance is bliss, but I'm glad I checked. Regards, Chris

Just goes to show you can't due a full inspection without getting right underneath the car.
Good Luck.

I was also going to comment that I don't have sway bars on my car because its not American, but I see now you mean anti-roll bars. These rose joints seize up like all the other suspension joints because the rubber covers are poor quality and perish quite quickly. The cover cracks, all the grease washes out and they seize up and if left will destroy themselves. They are still available I think and I believe there are alternative parts you can get to do this job.

An anti-roll bar by any other name .....I agree your comment on the rubber boots for all the ball joints, the ones on my rear lower wishbone have also perished, and will require dissassembly to replace.
The car is clean as I haven't driven it since travelling up from Canberra at Christmas last: I have a CEL on which I can't clear because the scanner won't talk to the car 'no communication'. Before I get a lecture on scanners, SD2, SD3, EOBD, OBDI, and OBDII the scanner I have has established comms with the car previously using a reasonably sophisticated Vident scanner with Maserati 3200GT software. I have a late 2000 model 16 pin set up which works on the KWP2000 protocol not the early Fiat 3 pin setup.
I consulted a friend who races rally Evos and he leant me his Snap-On scanner which also shows no comms, but has a really good go at establishing connectivity, I suspect the DLC on the car is not a good connection, and I am going to wire in a new replacement, very generic coupling.

loosing the scanner connection is pretty alarming on these cars, hard to keep them running without it I think. good luck fixing that one, and let us know whats caused it to fail, might help others with similar problems.

Nice Jaguar XJS is it a 6 or a 12 pot ?
Yes it's a 1988 V12, with a Turbo 400 transmission. I'm doing a refresh of this car as well as trying to get the Maserati running. Despite 12 cylinders they are reasonably easy to work on, access being easier than the Maserati, probably because it isn't a pseudo racing car!

Totally agree worked on a few when living in New Zealand and ran a Daimler XJC 4.2 on my fleet there too love classic Jaguars.
Having a lift is a must though as they are big heavy cars.

Once I have stopped celebrating connectivity the Web site will be the first to hear about it.

I'll post a picture of my Daimler on the hoist when I change the oil. That lump of British metal will test the hydraulics!

Just installed two lifts in my workshop here in France a 3500KG scissor lift and a 4200KG two post as modern cars are certainly piling on the pounds.
Apart from the odd Italian that might come into my workshop it's mainly French Classics for me know :)
