Front Shocks - Correct orientation

OK so in prep for fitting my shiny rebuilt engine I thought I would give the front suspension a clean up.
Having marked up the front shocks prior to removal, I enthusiatically cleaned them and lost all traces of markings - dooohhhh!
Are the shocks handed driver and passenger side?
Having neatly re installed them I now read that the stamped arrow, or jointed part of lower joint, needs to be pointing forwards.
Does anyone have a stamped arrow on their shocks ( I can't find one) or know what they mean by the 'jointed part of the lower joint'?
Many thanks
Ian

Mine had a painted arrow on them. I couldn’t actually work out why they were directional. Someone said the mount is offset but i couldn’t see it.

I think it was on the shock body. But it was really obvious it wasn’t a little mark someone had drawn it on

I’d always assumed it was the top mount but maybe the bottom bush is offset???
