Forum suggestion - deals/offers

Prompted by Frank's recent post on suspension arm refurb, I wonder if it might be worth making a sub-forum specifically for special deals etc only visible/accessible to signed up members. This would have at least three key benefits:

1) It would increase forum membership (though possibly by lots of people who don't post again!) and reduce random browsers.
2) It would protect the commercial interests of any company offering a Sportsmaserati special offer.
3) It may increase the number and value of offers - companies might be more willing to offer these if they know that it isn't just available to anyone doing a Google search.

Thoughts?

Think it might have to be run past the people organising the offers just to be on the safe side , very sound idea tho Nige i like it , not sure how we might work it but i would like to see a minimum post rate before the offers can be taken advantage of , just so we are not used by one hit wonders

Would have thought it needs to be an automated process otherwise Matt and Trev will have a nightmare trying to keep up with it.

How about a dedicated thread within say either the technical section or the announcements section - Forum discounts.

The topic of the deal itself can be referenced and described in full, but in order to take advantage of it, an offer code is required that also gives the amount of discount.

A list of offer codes and discounts can then automatically be sent to every member with for instance 100+ posts or more (or whatever).

New offers can then be added and the codes / discounts sent automatically as they come on stream, again to those who's post rate is above the trigger point.

I hadn't thought about anything as complicated as a post count, but I'm sure it could be done. I'd certainly meant something automated....in its simplest form it could just be a new category (alongside 'chat', 'announcements' etc etc), but when you clicked on it there would be a prompt to request a log in before you could see the threads.

I also think that a single thread covering all discounts etc gets difficult, as you might have to search through 20+ pages to find what you want - like the alternative parts thread (which could be split and moved into the new category).

I know Matt is considering a few up-grades....no doubt we can come up with a suitable solution.....but it would need moderated for a variety of reasons.
