Hi everybody not very often i need help but i have a problem i have a badly worn upper cable end peice bush the red grey one to fit my MANUAL gt coupe 4.2 gearbox the darn thing keeps falling off it is part of the gearbox control assy part number 198242 which clicks onto the gearbox levers

The complete unit cost on ebay £1.600 on ebay and the bush thats worn prob worth £5.you cannot buy the cable end piece separate what i am asking members has anyone got a spare cable end piece they can sell me or advice on where i can purchase a new bush if possible with a part number or alternative bush or a quick fix .

I have asked dave askew, greg i have tried everyone u/k and abroad and nobody can help spare parts are getting harder to come by for this motor what gets my back up if i was to fit a new unit with parts and labour prob add another £600 to the bill all because a £5 bush fails.

Yeah its disheartening, Piston rings no longer available separately or in a set , Buy the whole piston assembly £30 as against £148 from memory , multiply that by 8 = ouch

Thankyou for your helpfull info i did not know the complete cable could be replaced will keep it in mind fingers crossed a member may have an end piece which would result in a quick fix thanks.

Worth talking to cable tec or similar company as they may well have the connectors you need.

I think a Ford Transit gear cable end piece is similar, might be worth a look.

I am on the case many many transit end pieces saved in my ebay watch list it would be nice to know if the bush can be removed and fitted in my old part make life a lot easier for me .
I am waiting for a reply from Cable-tec to see what they can do for me fingers crossed.

That looks similar to a Pug setup. If so the yellow bit arrowed here is a push out clip that attached to a thread on the end of the cable. 99437

In the short (or possibly longer...) term, you can simply make up a bracket that will simply stop it being able to fall off. Basically a small staggered bracket that you can bolt on that won't let the cable end pop off the bush

Just to update control unit fixed I would rather not go into the details of the fix all I will say is just be carefull who you allow to mess with your motor .need I say more.

If anyone ever needs a gearbox control assembly, ie gearstick assy , cables ,and cable end pieces, they are still available

Eurospares, spyder p/n 198245 cost £116,, gt coupe 4.2 year 05 p/n 198242 cost £946 ..ouch.

Maranello, spyder p/n 198245 cost £161,,, gt coupe 4.2 year 05 p/n 198242 cost £1.310 a bigger ouch.

watch this space it would not surprise me to see the price of the spyder unit go thro the roof.

I did read on the forum somewhere that the spyder cable might be shorter but i have studied the pictures of both units and they look identical so check out before buying.

And thanks again to the members of this forum for their help.

I think the spyder is about 8 inches shorter, and that’s in the wheel base so would most likely mean shorter gear cables, still at the cost it’s tempting to pick up a spyder one just for the possibility of spare parts given the 10x multiplier on the Coupe one!

It just goes to show two identical units apart from the cable length a 10 to 1 difference in the price range how can that be
