Factory powertrain warranty

Hi All,

My 08 QP Sport GT Automatica is just about to come out of the extended factory warranty after 5 years.

I've been offered a 2 year unlimited kilometer factory powertrain warranty inclusions/exclusions as per below. Cost here in Oz (before haggling) is $4995.

Obviously it's a fair chunk of change, but it would cover me against problems like the dreaded variator repair etc, but is it really worth it given that the powertrain is fairly robust..... Repair costs over here are very expensive though...

It might also add some value when I do sell the car.

What's everyone's thoughts on this?

Cheers

Jon

Not come across the 6th/7th year warranty before........certainly a big plus on selling....ie make it easy to sell, not sure you could achieve a premium for it though.

Tell us about the variator failures?

How many miles on car, likely to do enough to warrant outlay?

Yeah really should have mentioned the mileage. 52,000 kms /32,500 miles so not that high. I would probably only put another 20,000 km on it over the next two years as well.

Variator failures are discussed in depth over at MaseratiLife, seems to be a random event, but they do seem to happen on wet sump engines more than on the dry sump variety.

Yup I've seen variator failures mentioned on ML but no one seems to have experienced them failing in the UK.

Must be driving on the wrong side of the road does it ;)

variators are a more common failure in straight line up engines and dont seem to be a problem in V's or W,
+ given the tell tail signs of one failing it give you plenty of time to sort it out.
