Evening all just got home from a 500 mile trip in the AC. Ran like a dream all the way.

One thing as the title says, got within 4 miles of home and the engine light came on. The car in running spot on any ideas? Don't laugh though....

In a word, Lambda fault. On long runs, when you get within the final miles, and drop your speed and revs, it can through up an error. It happened to me in the GS on the way back from The Malt Shovel. Car was running fine, but it had had a couple of hours of high revving, dropping off the motorway for the final couple of miles and the CEL comes on.

I dont think you can do a battery reset on the 3200, but its worth a try. Drop your drivers window, or leave the door open. Open the boot, turn off the battery and leave overnight. Turn back on and start the car without touching the accelerator and leave for idle for 15mins. You might as well do a throttle reset also, as if it is not the Lambda fault, the next suspect is the Throttle Body. Any garage with a laptop will be able to give you the fault code as long as your car is post 2001, which I am sure yours is, or you can purchase this and do it yourself:

Good luck

Thanks Matt

I have just gone down to pic it up from Meridien, after dropping it off when I came down for the Malt meet & Goodwood. I drove up from london to Glasgow this morning stopped at a mates house for a couple of hours then had a BRISK 40 mile
drive to the ferry. car was off for an hour the got off the ferry did about 8 miles and it came on. I had gone over two cattle grids just before so wonder if that might be a cause. I will do a battery reset tomorrow if I have time but as I say the car is running very well.
Ho Hum.

Buy the way that tester is it a comprehensive diagnostic bit of kit, as living on craggy Island and at least 3 hour from MP Super cars I may just get one.

Yes, it will diagnose and reset the engine ECU but not the other functions like suspension, ABS etc, you need SD2/3 for that, but the Digimoto is brilliant and I have it. It will give you the code, and you can look it up and clear and reset it.

It is the CEL that came on and not the ERROR light, if so, the Digimoto will sort it. You will probably find it wont come back on again plus it will give you a pointer as to what had a paddy, so you can keep an eye on it.

Yep, thats the CEL - Check Engine Light so the Digimoto will sort that out.

Get the usb kit then, its well worth the £100 plus you can do all your mates cars, anything Alfa, VW or Audi Group, Seat, Skoda etc.

But I would just email them first and tell them that you need the one that fits and Alfa and you should be fine.

I bought my cable eslewhere, its was called a ELM327:

This even comes with the software, its very basic but will probably work, give it ago and if not, just buy the Digimoto software only..all for £20!!!

Good info Conaero.......maybe put this on a sticky, as people ask quite often about OBDs?
