Good morning, ecu scan pulls a code p0700 which points to error stored in the gear box control unit. What connection cable required to read the gearbox? It is an automatic.
My engine ecu is obdII format.
Thank you guys.

Sorry, going to need a bit more info on your car, model etc.

To read gearbox codes I think you only can do it with SD if its not showing up using a generic reader.

Its the same issue with other control units like the airbags, ABS etc. it was law that post 2001 cars had to be OBD compliant and Maserati did the bare minimum (engine) to conform.

Thanks Conaero,
The car which needs all my attention is an automatic 3200gt. Can you point out where is the diagnostic port located of the gear box?
What could have caused the p0700 code? Is it a common error on these car?

I think the error code you have is the error code from the gearbox, and that may be as good as it gets. The codes are sent to the ODBII port by can bus i think. Your error is

  • P0700 Transmission Control System Malfunction
This is telling you the control system is not working.
note the other possible gearbox codes are shown below so you can infer that it is not any of these. It is a fairly generic error code. when was your oil and filter last changed? Changing the filter can make a difference. other wise you may need a transmission shop to help you work it out! it could be the controller, internal solenoids etc. Although knowing these cars its more likely to be a faulty connector or a faulty relay some where. Try all the related fuses and relays first it costs buttons. (I keep a bag of relays and 2 boxes of fuses in the boot as my first line of defence against breakdown!)

Thanks again Davy, I will get the gearbox oil and filter changed and check the relays and fuses. I think the oil has not been changed in the last 10000km.

I read from the workshop manual that when battery voltage drops below 10V, the gear box cannot be downshift to 1st gear and an error would be stored in the ECU. When voltage rises above 10V it will be normal again. The p0700 may well be caused by the old under-performing battery. I am yet to measure the voltage at the battery terminal, but the instrument cluster does indicate below 11V sometimes.
