Driver Awareness Courses

Anyone else done one?
This is my second and took it today in Dorset.
Apart from relinquishing 3 valuable points, it's also a jolly fine way to refresh the old driving habits.
Sure there are some who mock it, but I really do believe it's a great idea.
It's not 'education', it's 'training'. Education is what politicians tell us we need for every eventuality. Training is what people need; a bit like any other animal, we need to be 'trained'.

From a reformed SP30 (and more) specialist ...until the next time.

Hi Mark

You are too far away but a very good friend of mine in the Gatwick area is an ADI. Formerly for the Police. She is willing to offer Driver Awareness and any refreshers SM members may require. You won't scare her as she is used to bolting down the hard shoulder at 100mph with the Police so anyone Interested in the Surrey, Sussex and Kent area get in touch. Good rates for SM members.

Regards
Paul

I did the advanced driving course a few years back and it was very interesting, particularly the comentry whilst driving, once managed to drive 104 miles on the motorway without touching the brakes once just by looking ahead and taking evasive action. Did the speed awareness course last year as well and surprisingly found it quite interesting and learnt a few things. The problem is we all think we are good drivers, most of us are not including me.

EP, we were asked how good a driver we thought we were.
On a scale of 1 to 10, I thought a 6. The course leader told us that he finds that anyone you thinks they are a 10, is generally pretty poor.
Thanks for the heads-up on the ADI too; I do rate the courses very highly; if all that effort only stays with me for 12 months, then I reckon it's been worthwhile.
