Afternoon,

Jerky in 1st and there is a slight knock when you press the accelerator.

Diff or gearbox issues ?

I am running the 3.9 diff from the auto but i doubt that it the reason, i still have the original.

Thanks

Is it a Gran Tourismo MC Shift or autobox? Not quite sure what car you have..
Either way a diff clunk is very metallic and noticeable. Probably bushings as Zep states.

Prop joints, diff backlash, driveshaft, loose yoke, diff bushes, diff cradle too on a Ghibli. Try turning the prop shaft by had with the wheels locked and see if there’s any play in the drive itself, that’s easier to rule out than bushes.

I think it came from a QP4 automatic

I swapped it years ago if i recall the standard one in the 6 speed cup was a 3.73 and the rear diff from the Auto was 3.9.

Yes the Auto ZF is 3.9 (or 3.95 ?)
There are less knocks with the ZF diffs. But on auto cars people don't notice the knock because the torque converter hides it.
Well that could be many things, you need to go under the car and inspect the 3 shafts and the play inside the diff itself. A light play in the diff is normal.

Ah, hump shunting, a very real condition! Something we used to do when hump shunting yards at places like Tinsley in Sheffield were in vogue...

Some manly work yesterday.

Swapped the diff over. When on the ground there was a bit more "clonk" on the 3.9 when turning the input shaft.

You dont need to remove the subframe with a bit of wriggling you can get it out.

I have some 75w90 LS diff oil in the garage.

Does the Cup have an LSD ?

Thanks
