Just fit an Xpipe and wind the windows down, oh and did you contact Meridien Modena?

I upgraded the rubbish in my Gransport and it's a much much better. Factory stock look (no silly speaker grills) but high quality components and lots of Dynamat. If you don't mind spending a little cash, you can work wonders with any car, easily better than 95% of factory or optional installs.

My sterio has just decided to stop working. No sound coming out at all. Any ideas anyone.

Not sure if BOSE makes a difference but my car has got it and I'd say the sound quality is "okay". I dread to think what the standard unit is like. However, as others have said, you'll spend most of the time listening to the engine!
As for values/re-saleability, it probably makes a bit of difference because most cars have a minimum of BOSE and Comfort Seat Pack added.

Mine has it and the old one didn't. The old one was shocking with the standard system.

The new one has the Bose upgrade and I would say its "ok and good enough" - but its not stunning for sure.

In my old one I did the Audiofile upgrade and put some info up on here. I'll have a dig around and try and find a link to it... The most stupid thing was that I sold the car about 4 mths after doing the upgrade. Way to waste a couple of grand... but to the credit of the Mrs, she's never mentioned it. Yet.

OK, here we go, from May - you'll note the comment at the end about me expecting to keep it for another couple of years, such that its worth it. Yeah, so that went well - picked up my current car in September - 4/5 mths later. Doh!!! One other note to add to this, the rear speakers were no longer working. We only discovered this a couple of months later as no-one had travelled in the back. If I was keeping it, I'd have taken it back as clearly something had gone wrong somewhere.

Looking back on this now, of course its tarnished by me switching the car. If I had kept the old car then it probably would've been worth it because the old system was sooo bad (how do Maserati make them so appalling!?). But, it was a lot of £££'s to be honest. I'm certainly not even tempted to upgrade from the Bose system in my new drive, as although it'd probably be 25% better, its really not worth it in my opinion. Plus, frankly, I spend more time listening to the exhaust in this car :)

"I picked my car up on the Saturday as promised (dropped off Tuesday morning). They'd clearly pushed hard to get it done in time and had to put in the hours for completion. I'm going to start with a bit of a mixed review, so its important you read to the end!!!

- car was a bit untidy inside - could have done with a duster and a quick hoover, given that bits had been taken in and out, had a number of people crawling over it. To be fair, they said they would've sent it for a valet, but had run short of time.

- in the workshop the sound was rich and good, but in hindsight (and read all the way to the bottom remember), this really came about due to the volume that it was being played at and the choice of music. But you're in the moment so all is good.

- driving home we (me and the boy) started to feel the sound was almost a bit tinny, lacking some warmth and slightly hollow. Perhaps we'd knocked a switch or something? So we phoned up and perhaps had fiddled with the wrong dial or something - Audiofile continued to be very helpful. Maybe, we'll give it time...

- during the week, the sound was still a bit light on the warmth and strength of bass (ironic given that it now had a bass speaker in the rear shelf!).

However, after about a week and easing up the volume a bit more from time to time, the sound started to come alive. It has been almost like the speakers really did need some 'wearing in' to get the sound coming through. Now, without too much of a hike in volume i.e. keeping it at a level that you can sensibly drive at and is possible to hold something of a conversation, and not compromise anything, the sound is distinctly richer and warmer, be that through the radio even, but of course primarily via CD.

It starts to become hard to remember just how bad the sound used to be (it was a factory standard, non-Bose system), so I used my Volvo as a measure. The stereo in that is more than acceptable and was significantly better than the GT. Indeed, I'm not an audio buff / nerd / geek, but if the GT had had a stereo quality the same as the Volvo, I wouldn't have upgraded it. But now I would confidently say the GT has overtaken it in the sound stakes by some significant steps (first week notwithstanding). Its a lot clearer, a more precise sound, the warmth comes through, there's much more bass coming through etc...etc...

I also had a basic Parrot BT system fitted at the same time. This is handy for incoming calls - I deliberately chose the setup as it was discreet, although is limited as you can't make calls handsfree, but that's fine for my needs.

I guess I have two regrets or overall negatives:

i) no connection for a USB / ipod - driving this seems to cause infernal problems in these cars!
ii) not being told, presuming it is 'known', to give it a bit of time for the stereo to run itself in.

But, the positives are now far outweighing it. With an extra 3 speakers (Bass, plus two top end located at the level of the wing mirrors) plus the various other electronic gizzmos and replacement of the existing speakers, the system is a leap forward. I paid just over £2k for it - worth it? Probably...but I'm not a total audio buff. But...I am planning on keeping the car for at least 2 years, maybe more (hence getting the upgrade done now and getting the benefit from it), so the payback is good.

As a footnote, the speakers that came out were in fact BOSE, so they must be the factory standard for ease of production, but I guess the manufacturer upgrade does a fair few bits more - including a proper rear shelf speaker."

The standard set-up is poor and the Bose is better but still not good. I saw a thread regarding the quality of the BOSE speaker units and they looked shockingly bad - an easy way to upgrade is to replace the front speakers with a good set of components with dynamat. One point to note is I understand it is easier to upgrade a non-BOSE system (with amplifier etc) as you don't have to deal with the BOSE processing etc.

It wasn't there car, did some more digging. I like podcasts and hip hop but also classic so exhaust is awesome but on long runs would or fast driving, I like some bass. not the end of the world and something that can be changed.

Dynamat seems to be the way to go and thanks for tip, adding some front speakers that are at least half decent is a good start.

These guys... Im thinking even if can start with some basic front speaker upgrades as apparently it seems the factory stock system is shockingly bad, mind you sounds like the BOSE isn;t amazing.

Stewart - yes, they're the people that did mine. You might want to see if they - or to be fair any reasonable self-respecting place - could do just a basic front speaker upgrade. I'm certain they'll offer more like any good salesman!

They did the bass speaker in the parcel shelf, but it only adds something if you listen to that kind of music and do so at volume. To my mind that part probably didn't bring as much as I'd have liked to the whole set-up.

I wouldn't be bothered about the car not having the Bose system, it is better than the standard set up as has been said, but by any other measure is very disappointing. The main surround signal processing only applies to the CD source and not to radio or iPod/aux inputs, which is difficult to understand as I can't imagine many people use CD as their primary source of music these days. Even then it really only comes alive at higher volumes, at sensible levels it is very unfocused with a woolly base and no real mid-range. In hindsight I wish I had not ordered the upgrade and instead spent the money on an aftermarket system. Trouble is to properly upgrade the Bose system is expensive as it is not just a question of swapping speakers out, I am told it is to do with the way the processor splits the signal that makes it difficult to simply upgrade the speakers.

In short, I wouldn't worry if it doesn't have Bose!

Sounds a good plan, the bass on parcel shelf is not the key its more the front speakers that looking even at the BOSE setup it seems they were poor.

Thanks for great feedback

My main music source will be USB stick uploading music to the 30gig drive, sounds like a nice set of front speakers with some dampening will make the standard system 10 times better :)

I hardly ever have mine on, just open the window.

After over two years' ownership I finally got around to wiring in my iPhone/iPod so I could listen to my sounds on the move.

I did that in May and I've listened to music the sum total of: once.

The car makes all the music I need.

Just going out to look at a sterio and prob some front speakers as I think this is the problem my sterio has gone down recommendations please. Haven't got long to sort this out.
