Does anyone know anything about this manual facelift?

I’m in discussions with a view to potentially purchasing this car and wondered if anyone knew anything about it?

I know this was sold by Dicky Grace a few years ago and was a very nice example at the time, but several years and a few ownership changes on, things may have changed.

The seller sent me a few additional photos showing the underside before and after being treated with Lanoguard. Apart from a couple of rusty brackets it all looks ok to me but if anyone can spot anything untoward or out of place I’d be grateful for any observations:

My only observations from the photos in the sales adverts are that there’s a bit of a gap in the service history but very few miles covered during that period so not too concerning; a little gravel rash on the rear of the front arches but this is commensurate with mileage and I suppose it shows that everything is original and not crash damaged; the tyres a getting a little old (dated 2015 on the rear, and 2018 on the front); and there’s a colour discrepancy on the driver’s seat. I asked for a close up photo of the seat and the seller tells me it has been refurbished. Whilst it looks ok, you can see that the stitching has worn away on the left side and the remainder of the stitching has been dyed to the same colour of the seat, whereas the rest of the interior has contrasting stitching (Bordeaux according to the description). To me the driver’s seat colour looks much whiter than the rest of the interior and has a kind of flat appearance, whereas the rest of the interior has a kind of warm glow. It may be that the camera picks up the discrepancy that may not be seen with the naked eye.

I think this photo shows the colour difference very clearly (you may need to zoom):

If you compare the driver’s seat to the rear seat behind and the passenger seat beside it you can also see a difference in colour, and the fact that the stitching on the driver’s seat now doesn’t match the rest of the interior.

Overall it looks to be a fairly decent example in an unusual spec and reasonably priced but does anyone have any thoughts? Am I likely to find anything much better without searching for years? I’m not specifically looking for a facelift but I’d prefer something post 2003 without the ugly radio aerial. It must be manual. There’s a similarly priced silver pre-facelift car on Autotrader with lower miles and on the face of it looks quite nice but looking at some photos from an auction where it was previously sold, the underside and subframe don’t look too clever and for some reason, all of the coating has been removed from the buttons leaving behind the bare plastic:

It looks OK, but photos on screens are a poor alternative to seeing it personally.
It is a 20 year old car and cream leather will take a beating... its fixable, but would cost about 10% of the cars worth...probably why its been smart repaired...personally I would rather see a worn seat than one that's been painted for the same reasons you point out.

It all comes down to price, whist the cars are in my view great value for money that 'perfect' car will cost a lot more. Personally I am not a fan of under-seal treatments whilst they offer protection they can cover a multitude of sins. I would rather see the underside as it left the factory, if something needs sorting you can see it and deal with it.
That said its overall it looks nice and my preference colour wise, goof luck!

Thanks very much for your views. I agree about the under seal but at least we can see what it was like before treatment, and it seems that Lanoguard is removable so it shouldn’t be a big issue. I’ll go and have a look and see what it’s like in person

Recently applied under seal should sound alarm bells as it looks like trying to tart it up before sale.
I undersealed an old range rover, it seemed to do little to stop the rust and afterwards you got absolutely filthy working on it.
Definitely need to go look for yourself, the body is normally ok, the subframes are the weakness.

Prefer the clean and treat the rust properly myself

I viewed the car on Thursday, the seller was absolutely excellent and allowed me to view the car on the ramp and left me alone to carry out my own inspection. Other than a few minor cosmetics and needing some rear tyres, the car is really nice so I bought it, hopefully it will be delivered to me in the next couple of weeks.

Very Well played and I'm sure you worked the tyres into the deal too.
The Coupé looks Great in that colour scheme.

Many thanks everyone, I went against all the normal advice and bought the first one I saw, and didn’t have a ppi! However, I did carry out all the usual due diligence with Car Vertical, checking mot history, studying paperwork etc and my gut feeling was that it was a very nice example and that even lower mileage examples might not be any better. The seller couldn’t have been more open and helpful so I was confident that everything should be fine. I was able to inspect the underside in detail on the ramp and everything looked good to me, all very clean and has probably rarely seen rain. This car was sold by Dicky Grace many years ago and also once belonged to Dave T on this forum. I was able to do a deal at £12.5k because it needs new rear tyres, the seat repair colour match isn’t quite right and there are no records of the heater matrix having been replaced. I think that’s a pretty good deal and a lot of car for the money. I might be wrong but I think it might be the only UK RHD manual facelift in Rosso Mondiale. I’ll update with some delivery pictures in the next couple of weeks

There at least two as I had another one many moons ago. It had black leather with diamond red stitching and red carpets. No idea where it is now. Enjoy!

That’s very interesting, thank you. I knew there were a few red Cambiocorsas but hadn’t seen another manual. The number of manual facelifts seems to be unknown, some say around 15, others say as high as 50 or 60. I have details of 17, one of which is now dead I think and one was exported to Australia

I’m out of the country currently but will get you the reg and chassis number when I get home - had my private plate on it when I had it.
