Opinions please. My car in at my MD getting serviced, 2 years ago at 20k miles it had the diff oil changed, MD is saying it needs doing again. The car has done 4k miles in the last 2 years.

How much is it going to cost? Assuming there's not a condensation issue, I'd be inclined to leave it.

Hi Catman

I isn't the end of the world at £150, but if this is a 2 yr requirement you would expect it to be in the service schedule?

Apparently, it looks dirty.

I would indeed expect it to be in the schedule. From what I have here there is no recommendation to change, only to inspect. If it's 'dirty' after 4k miles, I might change it, and get it checked again, as I'd be concerned as to why.

I don't think it's really a biggy, though

That's not a standard 2 year item though is it ??

As an aside what happens with gearbox oil and also the gearbox hydraulic oil on the servo's and pipes ete which I assume are there for the flappy paddle gear change ?

Daft example but my 320d gearbox is 'sealed for life' it's now on nearly 200k and I changed it at 100k and and getting it changed in 2 weeks. No way any fluid can go that far

I was amazed at how dirty it gets and I would seriously recommend you get it done.
The new QP and Ghibli do the same.
Wouldn't want to have to pay for a new diff unless you have a good warranty.
Changed a couple down here.

Thanks all, I'll get the MD to change it, but will query if they are certain it was changed 2 years ago at the last service. If it was and the diff oil needs changed today with only 4k mile since the last service then it should be a in the 2 year service schedule.

Update - just spoke to my MD, they dug out the job card and it was changed 2 yrs ago. As it stands the diff oil in there now is discoloured after 2 yrs and 4k miles, the MD recomends I get it changed and confirmed that the diff is functioning correctly etc. For £150 I'll get it changed, although it makes my wonder why it isn't in the service schedule.

It is in the service schedule to replace the gearbox and differential oil every 2 years for MC Shift cars. Bit cheeky them charging you! Is yours an auto?
