Decided to trade in my 2008 4.2 GT for this 2012 4.7 GT

I've been really happy with my 4.2 but having sold an SL500 and now having spare funds I've decided to buy this. My 4.2 has been super reliable - I just wanted the better brakes and a little more torque.

I did the deal today without seeing the car. Do these models have the exhaust that 'opens' up at 3k revs?

Thank you.

Congrats - that’s a lovely looking car.

You’re brave to do the deal without seeing it. Is it a dealer you know?

Thanks, Jon.

In a word no. But they have a good reputation and the car has a full MD history with the last service from Maranello.

I'm in Ascot (I see you're in Surrey) and it is too far to go etc, But they are delivering, swapping over etc, and have confirmed the conditon by email.

You have 2012, does the sports button do much more than firmer suspension and more sensitive throttle?

Cheers,

Hi Michael,

Nope - my understanding is Sports button does three things. Opens the exhaust valves, improved throttle response, and slightly firmer suspension. I tend to drive with it pressed 90% of the time as I love the noise, and even more so since I fitted a Larini x-pipe to mine...

The dealer reviews do look good, and I think it looks like a decent price for the spec (and particularly the colour and interior combination). When will it be delivered?

Hello Jon,

The dealer is flexible. The car is being prepared and he's promised on email it will look as good as new... so I've said take your time. I guess it will be 7 days or so.

The PO had it serviced a year early August 2017, at Maranello at 27.5k miles, the tyres are all good so I'm hopefull (fingers crossed). The other two services were on time with Meridien Modena and HR Owen. My 4.2 is the same combination, but with a couple of extra options. Blue calipers and briar wood and has been a great car.

If you drove it with a mind to economy in sport mode ,would it still drink more than in normal mode ? That open exhaust in sport mode has got me thinking....

almost certainly not. the mode switch just changes the curve on the map from the electric signal from the accelerator pedal map to the throttle position.

Congrats Michael. That driver's seat looks like a very nice place to be :)

If you care to, I'd be very interested to read your comparison of the driving experiences
of both cars. 4.2 and 4.7. Pure curiosity on my part.

Chalk and cheese!

Having recently changes my 2008 4.2 for a 2014 4.7 Sport Auto, I'm still struggling to comprehend it's the same car underneath. The 4.7 is so much more responsive with more torque, better handling and better brakes. The Auto blips on downshifts as well and sounds awesome. I've not done anything to the exhaust (though it may have been played with before I got it) but the noise in sport is incredible with a much more deep throated V8 rumble at tick over.

I really liked my old car but you should change up if you can - it's a different beast altogether.

Thank you, everyone. One last question, did the 2012 models have Skyhook as standard? My 2008 does so wouldn't want to not have it.

Yes, I believe the auto has Skyhook as standard.

Lovely colour combo and nice price if she is as good as dealer says. Let us know once delivered!

Thanks again, i'm waiting on the supplying dealer (Meridian) to confirm the build spec. I'm 99% sure they all had Skyhook then.

Cheers David. You have me convinced. (you bugger, lol) Changing up is going to have to wait unfortunately, but meantime I might call in to our infamous MD here in N.I. and try one on for size ;)
