De-catted 4200

My 4200 recently had the front n/s cat disintegrate and half blockup the exhaust causing it to cough and splutter. After a while , my mechanic found the problem and removed the offending item and welded the exhaust back up. This caused the back pressure to be unbalanced and the back cat on the o/s to become loose, so , all 4 cats have now been removed. The car goes like a (noisy) train but is showing an error code on the dash caused by the sensor in the exhaust showing unburnt fuel. My question is, is any harm being done to the engine (there is a lot of crackle on over-run), and what are my options ? Larini sports exhaust at over £2k for a full system is way over my budget. I can live with the noise if there is no damage being done but when I come to sell her it could be difficult to explain the error code on the dash. Any thoughts guys ?

The software for the fueling ecu will have to have some changes made to counteract the sensor signal , where you will get that done im not sure there may be an indy that may attempt it for you Chris, Quite often the cats come up on ebay so i would keep an eye open , or you could ring David askew and try and get some used ones ,

Dont quote me but damage wise i cant see problems other than being constantly over/under fuelled oh and i wont pass the mot unless you know someone that will , how we say swing things for you

Another method will be to go to an exhaust specialist to make you some sports cats ie Charlie at Prosport in cardiff i believe are a lot cheaper that Larini ,

thanks loz,
I think the MOT can be 'swung', it was more the fact no damage being done, however, it seems to smell like it is running a bit 'rich'. (could be me being paranoid )!!
