My 4200 recently had the front n/s cat disintegrate and half blockup the exhaust causing it to cough and splutter. After a while , my mechanic found the problem and removed the offending item and welded the exhaust back up. This caused the back pressure to be unbalanced and the back cat on the o/s to become loose, so , all 4 cats have now been removed. The car goes like a (noisy) train but is showing an error code on the dash caused by the sensor in the exhaust showing unburnt fuel. My question is, is any harm being done to the engine (there is a lot of crackle on over-run), and what are my options ? Larini sports exhaust at over £2k for a full system is way over my budget. I can live with the noise if there is no damage being done but when I come to sell her it could be difficult to explain the error code on the dash. Any thoughts guys ?
