I've just got memories as a kid sat in my grandparents kitchen with pressure cooker whistling away, twin tub washing machine doing the washing, black and white portable TV on the worktop corner, with endless stews. Not forgetting a box of white candles for the 70s power cuts!

Does amaze me a bit at the start of the 70s a sign of a good quality product was Made In Britain stamped on it but by the end of the decade that was becoming the opposite.
Was this down to what was happening at BL throughout the 70s?

Think you might be needing those candles and one of those gas lamps with a “mantle” again this winter when the gas runs out!

Can remember those nights as a kid in the 70’s when the power went off at 8pm during the 3 day week, and it was off to bed fully clothed, waking up in a freezing room with no central heating and ice on the inside of the windows where condensation from my breath had frozen. Character building!

You mean the water balloon machines? They were a great idea after a load of beer on a summers evening.

Yup. Walking home, and fuff, toral darkness. Went in circles for about an hour trying to get off the common in front of home. Exacerbated by Walking home from the pub. At least I didn't fall into the pool

Yup. I clearly remember ice on the inside of the windows on winter mornings.

Me too bought my first house in 1985 with no heating or double glazing and had a portable gas heater only the Winters were hard but then it was the same working as a Mechanic too.
