Dampness in QP V front passenger footwell

I was doing some work in the front passenger footwell area and noticed that the furry insulation underside of the noise deadening panel was slightly damp. This is the piece that covers over the metal plate that, in turn, covers the subwoofer - see pics below. The carpets themselves were perfectly dry. Left the panel out in the sun and it dried quickly before I put everything back. No snells so I’d guess this is recent.

Is this likely to be from air conditioning condensation on the metal footplate or perhaps slight water ingress? Thanks.

I’m pretty sure the rear drain holes for sunroof exit behind the rear wheel liners & the best thing to use to clear them is a flexible net curtain wire as they come in different lengths.
you feed from rear wheel arch until it comes out in sunroof.

Does anyone know where the exit points are in the rear wheel arch and is it a wheels/liner off job? I had a look but could not see anything obvious. Thanks

I imagine it is behind the liner. Doesn't make much sense exiting into a mucky area I guess. That's why I don't like sunroofs. ;)

I had a damp drivers side a while back which was a blocked sunroof drain. To confirm just open your sunroof and pour some water in so it goes down each of the 4 drain holes. I guess water will not drain on your front passenger side which will be obvious to see.

I tried all sorts of wire to feed down the drivers side A pillar to clear it out but somewhere where it meets the wing it wouldn’t go past. Ended up getting Autoshield to do a bit of a dismantle to get to the offending blockage and clear it out. Should have got them to take pics. I couldn’t see the exit point from below to try and rod it out from the bottom.

Thank you @gb-gta, much appreciated! I’ve had the same problem. Found a point I can’t get past. Going to try gardening wire next (after trying drain cleaner wire). I have the carpets all open and lifted out and can see it is entering from the wall of the centre console towards the glove compartment behind the soundproof panels, when we had the recent heavy rain. Will report back! Thanks again!

Could try giving Russel a call at Autoshield. He may remember doing it (black sport GTS), I think it was a year or so ago, and be able give you a pointer. Having said that, who knows if the passenger side routing is the same as the drivers side! I seem to remember it being something any rodding device wasn’t going to get past.

I did manage to get to the exit points of the two forward drain hole tubes. They are directly behind the third porthole vent (the one nearest to the front wheel arch). My hands were small enough to get inside and direct some flexible garden tie wire into the tube and up the lower curves. If your hand is too big then wheel arch lining needs to come off. The porthole grilles will gently pry off with finger and nail pressure (and then when re-inserting, slide up and engage the top part with the metal clips and then press in the bottom part with the plastic clips - that way you won’t scratch the paint). Some pics below.

If you have a friend with a compressor, how about trying some compressed air?
Thanks @Tallman. After clearing the two from holes from both sides with the garden wires, I ran water through the roof and they appeared to be flowing freely. However may look into this option if the carpets still damp. We had heavy rain in London yesterday so will check under the carpets again…

To conclude this thread, clearing out the two front drainage tubes on the sunroof has eliminated the dampness issue. I lifted the carpets to check underneath the sound proofing panels and all dry. When the rear wheels are next off, I shall ALSO clear out out the two rear drainage tubes but car is back to normal for now.
