Damnint why did I buy a Maserati?!

Been busy trying to find something to replace my QPV with... there is literally nothing I would rather have!

Every time I step out of the house, walk up to the car in a car park or turn up anywhere, I just love it! The shape, it's presence, exclusivity, even it's build quality! (and to be honest, the feeling of being a little better than everyone else!!)

Everything I've looked at falls so far short... even newer Maserati! What's with doors on cars! Every car I've looked at requires me to heave on some sort of lever! Where is the electric button?!

A 5 series and A6 are both perfectly reasonable cars... but they are awful! I closed the door on a new 5 and thought the opposite one was going to fall off! The interiors while 'nice' just lack any personality!

The A8 is pretty much the car I've settled on... inside it's bursting with toys, but outside... it's just another German box...

I know the Masser is a step up from those cars... but it is, in essence 15 years older... so should have been surpassed by now, but it isn't!

That brand has broken me for anything sensible!!! So I'm back to Ghiblis... I just can't quite stretch to the QP6 that I want... I just don't think I would feel comfortable looking out the window and not seeing a Maserati in the drive!

It's interesting. Was out last night with a one of my bosses (a petrolhead who does a lot better than me), who moved from a Granturismo (that he bought out of its lease and owned for seven years from new) to a McLaren 570S and now a 720S (lucky guy). While appreciating the McLaren, he definitely misses the Maserati...

I'm looking at what to replace the Jag with.

And as much as I'd like a QP6 (diesel) I'm not sure I would feel comfortable racking up huge mileages in a Maser.
I would always be worried that a scary bill was just around the corner.

I'm looking at either a Merc CLS, or (dare I say it) an Audi A7 BiTurbo (the 313bhp one).

If you feel like that, why replace it? There may be a thread somewhere explaining why but your strength of feeling suggests you'll regret it for a long time.

Go look at a Jaguar XJ, I think you will get a lot of what you are looking for, especially if you go for the V8, but it won’t match the QP on theatre - nothing will.

But they are not a euro box
They have personality and presence
They are exclusive (there are not that many around outside of London)
They make you feel special (well they do me)
Decent build quality
They don’t have to be driven like an old mans car

We had a F Type R, it was V nice and turned heads with the looks and the demon exhaust pops and crackle on demand, but I wouldn't say it was particularly special from a charm perspective. Stick with what you like.

Try a Mercedes, you might find the E class as "meh" as the 5 series/A6 from the outside although the new E class has a cracking interior... if you consider the CLS or CLS shooting brake it does feel and look that little bit more special.

The QP5 is an awesome car, IMO the perfect balance of style & performance. I would just keep hold of it and except there is nothing better

It's a great car for sure but the QP6 is decent too. If you give it a year, there's a good chance it will have slipped closer to your budget maybe?
Or maybe get an even better QPV than the one you have, there's always room for improvement?

I’d be inclined to keep the QPV.
The Ghibli while a nice car, is not quite in the same league.
Why not keep the QPV and find something cheaper and less interesting for the every day

Why not just get a 166 TS facelift on private plate? It’s handsome, handles well for a big car and is eminently comfortable. And they’re inexpensive. Keep the QPV for special occasions.

If you must leave the fold; how about the naturally aspirated E63 AMG (thunderous engine, not as ugly as the square lighted Turbo follow up), or an Alpina B5 E60?
Not as pretty but they pack an almighty wallop.

The QP V is hard to beat, and I’d take it over a QP VI. Why not just upgrade to the very best and most immaculate QP V you can find?

Next year Jaguar launch an all new fully electric XJ, meantime the Ghibli will also be extensively updated with hybrid tech and level 3 autonomy. So depending on your budget it might be worth waiting.
Meantime I echo your thoughts on Maserati. Whilst I have only the humble Ghibli diesel, thanks to extensively delving into the options at the time of order, it's hard to find the same blend that you mentioned, of luxury and exclusivity in an alternative. Even after a little over four years I remain very happy...!
