Have heard of a few diff failures on thes cars.

Surely an easy fix, do a deal with ES and get a scrap diff thrown in, if not I bet David Askew has loads of them.

Unfortunately I don't think ES will sell the whole car to you, see below from the cars breaking main page
http://www.eurospares.co.uk/breaking.asp
"Each of the cars below are being broken down so all parts for each car will be available for purchase. We do not sell whole vehicles."
I find that a great shame as there are cars there that are fixable and some which have nothing wrong with them, can someone explain why they won't let you buy the whole car?

These cars that are for breaking are generally bought as cat B cars which means they are prohibited from being re registered, no ifs buts or ands they cant go back on an english road, as i remember most of the cars are generally semi stripped straight away within days of Euorspares recieving them, so unless its a brand new photo its my guess its already been stripped

Very odd - only sign of bodywork damage is that denting door - even i could get that straight.

Surely it can not just be the diff.......That surely could be put right.....Must be more to it than that for it not to be put back on the road...

Maybe it's driven over something wrecking the underside, and smashed the diff open maybe?

It is a odd one for a cat B.

Sometimes cars are made Cat B for non-damage reasons, for example if it was used in connection with a particular crime, owned by a known criminal or gang, or if the identity has been tampered with. It's possible for example that this was stolen (and damaged) and VIN etc changed before it was recovered.

Thought it was just accidents.....not if a criminal owned it....a bad accident that cant be put right.....

Nope, as per my post - there can be other reasons, although rare. You sometimes see cars with zero visible damage as cat B, most of which are probably cloned/lost identity I would assume. I expect that the criminal thing would only be in serious crime or gang related issues....there is perhaps some fear of liability (not sure whose though) from later mistaken identity etc.

As far as I know, there isn't actually any legislation regarding this, although 99% of people seem to assume there is. These are purely ABI categories, i.e. guidelines drawn up by the insurance industry.. Every now and then (e.g. on Pistonheads) you hear of people who have unwittingly bought a cat B car; as long as VOSA will do a VIC check on a cat B (and I don't think there's actually anything that prevents them from doing this) then the car could theoretically be back on the road. That's my understanding anyway. Not sure how they get insured again though! I'd avoid any categorisation unless it was to be a track car - too much hassle come resale otherwise.
