The design was ruined in the later models, earlier ones look a lot better, in my opinion. But I’m prejudiced because we have one.
Totally agree and often drive Ms French's uncles 99 4.0 liter one when I fettle it.
Worst thing they did was getting rid of the 3 gauges from the middle of the dash and putting the silly navigation unit in.
The original had a real old skool feel.
Like everything here an average price is around €20,000.
They are nice to work on too.

They’ve aged quite well.
Totally agreed Tim and having put an engine in the one for Ms French's uncle I got to know the car intimately and have found myself looking at them on a daily basis.
The supercharger is a little addictive.
Would probably look in Spain again to get a rust free one like my XJ6.

If you can find a rust free one it'd be a great car to own. I looked at them in the UK a couple of years ago before deciding to go for a 3200 because they were relatively corrosion free vs the Jag XK(R) which seemed to suffer from quite a lot of rot and some highly dubious welding / cosmetic repairs ... (It's sister car - the DB7 - is just as bad, probably because it's on the same old XJS platform).

Still have my emerald X reg. one. Here she is being persued down the front drive by an Italian thug!
I know the back seats are next to useless compared to a Maserati but boy it's a lovely looking car and a nice lhd one from Spain will do me fine here in my workshop.

There are a lot of cars out there that are relatively unused and harbouring problems that could cost something approaching the purchase price of the car again to fix at an independent specialist. Add to that the issues with parts cost and (non)availability, then even if you are a very capable DIY mechanic they're going to present problems and suppress prices. Unfortunately, those of us that have well maintained cars on the market that are reliable and kept in regular use are struggling to get much interest. Personally, I'd rather keep mine than give it away whilst the market is at the bottom of the curve ...

A £12 bottle of K-Seal will sort out a drip from the heater matrix. Oil can be changed relatively easy, the oil tank and sump easy accessible and the oil filter changed by taking off the r/h front wheel and wheel liner. Obvious the price of a clutch change is the Achilles heel with suspension parts running a close second especially with our **** roads.

All we are seeing I the chaff being removed from the market, just like all the poor 3200s from a few years back.

OK Anyone thinking that the 42/GS is going to increase in value is deluded and unless the car is perfect it will still go down in value relative the the market. But posting all the 'Please buy my car as I can't afford to run it' cars is kind of a self fulfilled prophecy.

If you have a good one, enjoy it or put it away until all the dross has gone to the breakers.

Yes, I see that's one of the 3200's that Emblem have for sale, that someone recently mentioned in another thread on here, as I recall. Needs a head off to deal with a valve problem on a single cylinder at best, so will be beyond the ability and tenacity of most DIY mechanics. Time consuming and frustrating at the very best, or simply beyond economic repair at this low point in the market ... to the breakers?

Not sure periods of long non activity on an engine is a good thing. My sunny day cars/motorbikes have more often than not shown a problem after a Winter lay-up.
My twin brother uses his 53 year old Lancia Fulvia every week several times and been all over the UK in it and over to me in France zero problems and still on points and condensor too.
