Vx220 turbo, elise tub with a lot more power :)

A lot more and less involving than the Elise...Drove one before I bought an Elise and found it a tad boring next the Elise experience......

Nikos, the thing with the MGF is that you would need to do a lot of upgrades to get any where near the sort of car a rover engined Elise is......Sure the MGF is a lot cheaper but there is a reason for that.......

Loads of special edition Elise...type 25, type 49, type 23, Club Racer, 135R, Sport160, Sport190, to name a few.....

Nikos, without being rude it's to talk about an MGF in the same breath ad a Lotus...THey may have the same rover engine that's were it stops....

Andy, i know, they're completely different values. Getting an exige now is something i cannot afford, cause i have several projects running.

TF is something i can afford now with all the mods i'll be doing, and see in the future if i'll sell if to get an Exige or Elise.

All i'm doing with this thread,is get some feedback, cause i have almost no idea about Lotus range.

I used to use a Porsche 911 (993 RS) for trackdays, whilst it was fantastic and immensly capable on track, it was also very exensive to run on track, and repairs were not cheap.

Now I use MX5 (Mk 1) which is cheap as anything to buy and run. Put a cage, retuned engine, suspension etc you'll have a very fun car to drive on track, with minimal running cost. If you want a bit more power you can always add a supercharger.

Thought about an Elise, but I was told Mk 3 MX5 is just as quick and a lot cheaper to run and more reliable, and handle just as well.

After doing a few yrs of track days and a couple of races, I've come to the conclusion that seat time is more important than the car. Cheaper the car, more seat time you can have. The MX5 is very forgiving and you can get it very sideway and still bring it back! Best car to learn in!

Mick, an MX5 is a great car but no way does it handle as well as an Elise on the twisty bits. The amount of speed you can carry into and around a bend in an Elise, EXige is amazing. Such a light car against the competition......

That's what I though Nikos...if the MGF is loads cheaper and you can mod as well then you could get yourself a cheap track car....

Very much agree, Elise will carry much more speed no doubt, and I can imagine a bit less forgiving? I have toyed with the idea of Elise as well, but for each crash I would have with the Elise, I could get a whole new MX5!

Is another scenario..But this will have to be my everyday car, a Lotus cannot.

If you're up for a little tinkering racelogic do a traction control system with in car realtime adjustable slip which can be retrofitted.

http://www.racelogic.co.uk/index.php/en/other-products/traction-control

I was seriously looking at S2000s a while ago but ended up buying a 147 GTA instead, still like them but my only fear as a track day car would be if I ended upside down in it :(
