Clock/trip/digital speed settings reset themselves

Very odd thing just happened. Started the car and the analog clock started going bananas like it was changing time. Then noticed on the digital display that it had changed time! - 00:00. The trip computer had been reset so nothing there either, and the digital speed had reset itself to km/h.

The only thing that I did differently from normal is hold on to the ignition a tad longer than usual.

Much fiddling, especially the km/h to mph to get things back. Otherwise nne the worse for wear it seems..
Any ideas?

Very odd indeed. How old is your battery?

Never had a problem with it, car has never failed to start. However I've never changed it in the almost 3 years I've had the car...

That could be it then. It's just always my first point of call with odd electrical behaviour and assuming it's probably over 3 years old by now, maybe it's worth getting it checked
