How Range Rovers became virtually uninsurable — The Telegraph
Thefts of the car have risen so much that affordable insurance is just not possible
apple.news
Just to follow up on this, the actual increase was from £425 to £630. Admiral we’re quoting £430, I went back to my original company telling them I was leaving and after quite a while on the phone they eventually matched Admiral at £430 …. so they really are just trying their luck!I received the renewal notice yesterday for my wife’s diesel Mini that also includes myself and my 22 yo son as named drivers, again have been with them for years and no claims for any of us on this or any other policy, no endorsements or anything and the premium had gone up 47% !!!
Went on GoCompare and found a suitable alternative (Admiral surprisingly) that matched my original (i.e.last years) premium, needless to say I will be going with them.
Bearing in mind the ones going with the inflated renewal price with these insurance companies it will be the elderly in a lot of cases, who are not internet savvy. It should be made a crime really.Just to follow up on this, the actual increase was from £425 to £630. Yes, I’ve seen that happen to elderly relatives. However, my wife is with Saga and they’ve just offered her a 3 year fixed deal which she decided to take for the price of a modest increase this year.Bearing in mind the ones going with the inflated renewal price with these insurance companies it will be the elderly in a lot of cases, who are not internet savvy. If they made the insurance companies stick with their renewal quote and they lost customers in droves that might stop their antics.
All my insurance, house and two cars are with Saga. So far, luckily I haven’t needed to make a claim but should that happen I’d like to think Saga would be quite straightforward.Yes, I’ve seen that happen to elderly relatives. Insurers usually see quite a churn of business because of swings in premiums. One year they’ll buy in business by offering cheap rates. They then find out a lot of that is low quality and they have to pay claims, so they then have to up their premium rates. A lot of the loss making business then departs to other insurers who are offering the cheap rates in that round of renewals.
Admiral look like they’re trying to buy in business this year … be interesting to see how long that holds up.
We did have a claim with Saga several years ago; someone hit our SUV when it was parked in the road. They looked after us with a courtesy car. The car was a “write off” but I was able to negotiate a market value settlement with them and bought the car back for repair … Saga were straight forward and easy to deal with, so I’d recommend them in the event of actually having a claim, which is what it’s all about! All my insurance, house and two cars are with Saga. Wasn’t Admiral the ones who started asking if you’ve been on a speed awareness course?

Hi mate just call them say your unhappy and gonna leave if they don't do anything with the price. Tbf they generally do bring the price down just trying there luckHi Guys,
Can anyone recommend one that does multi car policies pls.
Admiral over 50% increase this year so trying to get something I can go back to them with to haggle - have tried DirectLine and Churchill but they wont quote on one of the cars.
Tried Saga but it comes out over the renewal price!
On Go Compare comes up with companies not used and not sure of and would prefer a recommendation, in case we would need to claim.
Just 3 cars and 2 drivers - no business miles as I use a van if needed.
Thanks in advance
BUT Petrol Penis says otherwise! Here is his latest click bate myth. The new cars have different tech, so they are not subject to the same keyless-go security issue. The current Rangie is one of the most least stolen cars in the U.K.
Turning off keyless-go on the older cars takes seconds. It’s just a case of getting the news out there to the owners of the older cars.
But if insurance companies can stripe some people in the meantime, they obviously will.
Admiral have tried it on for the last 2 years with me. Last year it increased by 60%. Went online and clicked on the icon for thinking of leaving. Then it magically went right back down, and was cheaper than the previous year.Hi Guys,

Only if they declare itSurprising. Would have thought Alcoholics Anonymous had higher rates.
Not really. He just fails to explain the difference between the current/new ones, and the previous model. The new ones are not stolen, so insurance isn't a problem. It's (approximately) the ones from 2017-2021 that were being stolen (mainly from places such as London). But these are being upgraded for free from dealers, so it's not really such a big issue any more.BUT Petrol Penis says otherwise! Here is his latest click bate myth.
That’s what I mean, a new shape car when it relates to the old ones - misleading if you ask me.Not really. There's videos on YouTube interviewing the head of security from JLR that explain it better than I.
On related news, I have a new Range Rover Sport be delivered on Thursday for an extended test/loan. I've always had full-sized Rangies in the past (such as the one I have now), so it'll be interesting (for me at least) to see what I make of the Sport.
