Putting 2 and 2 together from the other post from hodroyd, I'm thinking this may be his car.

Cracking buy for the money - 41k miles, 2 owners and looks in lovely condition.

Its Xmas, deep in recession, so prices will be low. Its a bit like selling a house. In prosperous times, you get silly money for your house, then have to pay an even silly price for the one you are buying, its all about margins/the bridge between two products.

That AC is a beautiful car and someone has got themselves a bargain.

Hi MAF260,

I snapped this one up for a very good price, I saw the price drop and went to see it, bought it at the right money. Silver is fine at the price, imagine my face when I presented it to my wife for whom I bought it and she says "I wanted a blue one". As the AC is a 3 colour choice, that's what she had to have, but she loves it really.

Cheers

Hi Hodroyd and welcome!

Looks like you got a great deal and bought at the right time. That car had been advertised for a while at the higher price, so I was quite surprised to see it drop £3k. If you bought it below that then huge congratulations! You should have enough left as a war chest for any niggles to be sorted. Having said that, it looks a lovely car in great condition with low miles. Assuming the service history is up to scratch it's one of the bargains I've seen this year - surprised Dicky Grace didn't get his hands on it!
With regards your comment about brake discs - use the search function on here and look up the threads about Ferrari 550 discs. They have been measured properly and deemed the same as the 3200 discs, but are available for a fraction of the Maserati price.

Enjoy your new purchase!

Hi MAF260,

The car is good, drives very well, everything works. I think I bought at the right price and you are right, I have a margin to allow for any bits and bobs that are needed. Service history checks out. Thanks for the tip on the discs, I will take a look at that. Brembo will be able to clarify the part number I would imagine. I have been told that they are the same on the BMW M5, but I will check everything first. I have used EBC discs and ceramic pads on other cars, they work very well, but I do not know if they make for Massers.
We will enjoy our new baby for sure.

Cheers

Brembo are the only supplier of brake parts for these cars - probably something to do with a contract somewhere. There are no aftermarket discs available. Maserati prices are eye-watering and nobody has found a way yet to get them at a sensible price. 4 discs, pads and handbrake pads (read up on that as well) can come in at well over £1k! The 550 discs (fitted by numerous members already) are still relatively expensive, but still considerably cheaper. Handbrake pads are ridiculously priced and the glue fails which means the friction material drops off - even on fairly new pads! There is a load of info on this site about Belfast Brakes who can reline them properly, again at a fraction of the Maserati price. It's worth doing a little research on the AC's differences to the standard 3200. I think the brakes may differ, but only in pad compound rather than calipers or discs and something to do with the servo settings.

BTW - if your good lady doesn't appreciate her lovely new gift, you will have to keep it for yourself - shame!

Hi MAF260,

Many thanks for the tips and advice, I will do my homework. If new pads fail they should be under warranty replacement. I could do worse than ask Maserati what the actual differences are for the AC and keeping it on the road correct specs. I will try and keep everyone posted on my progress.
My wife loves it really, but I will still demand my time at the wheel, just to keep the engine flexible.

Cheers
