Central Locking all in a tiz

Hi all,

Had the car washed yesterday and since a number of people were crawling around inside, the central locking has gone crazy. Firstly only the passenger side door was locking now that's just started locking and unlocking automatically. The only way to get the car locked is to manually lock it (sometimes just driver side, sometimes both sides). The alarm does seem to function though so I know it's not the key.

Any thoughts ? I've seen a similar post on this and it was a number of different issues but just looking to see if there is anything I can do (reset) or check (internal locks, buttons or usual faults) before looking for help. Also if I do need to look for help it seems to be auto electricians that would be most useful, is that the best route.

God knows what I'd dow ithout you lot so thanks very very much in advance again.

Stephen, yup do a reset using on/off knob in boot just over battery....leave for twenty mins.....then start up.....normal sequence...mostly turn key to last stop when all lights go on, let nearly all lights go out, before its fires....leave to idle for 10 mins or so.....they can be pretty temperamental at times.....

P

PS Be sure to lower door window 2 inches before you turn off and leave boot open too!

If the door tries to lock, but then immediately unlocks again, the system thinks something is still open, so either one of the two doors. You mention it's been washed? Pressure washer? What are your window dip functions doing? Do they drop as required from both the inside and outer door handles, and do they both lift completely on closing?

I had this same issue and replaced the passenger side locking mechanism. Its quite a cheap part. However someone suggested afterwards that I may have been able to oil the existing lock to repair rather than replace. Worth a shot with some wd40...

From my experience with a 3200, the door lock solenoid or the micro switches
May be sticking. As suffered above if u try to lock the car & one lock sticks, the central locking control is getting2 conflicting signals 1 indicating still open, one saying closed, therefore the default is to remain unlocked.
The Power down does not have any influence in this situation. My fix was a replacement door lock mechanism as the cl motor is part of the lock. Sounds painful but Euro spares was £35.00 & a few hours to fit.
Hopes this helps

Except when the door lock mechanism fails in a different way and the door gets closed (see my other post...) Awaiting the mechanism for Eurospares, and trying to figure how to open the door to be able to replace it! ;)
