Cat D QP Sport GTS

I would of thought mid teens for a cat D. Some insurance companies still won’t insure cat cars. Would have to be a keeper at a decent price plus photo evidence of pre repair damage.

64k and a CAT D.....Black and cream always looks good....but....is it me or would you say as a CAT D the price should start with a 1 not a 2...…...I think it looks mean with those wheels and black...

Well, a fair price will depend a LOT on what the Cat D was for and what the repair evidence is like.

I know of members that paid less than this a few years back for a good car. Yes prices seemed to have risen slightly for these but think this should be around 16/17k Max.......Always liked black with very dark/black wheels. A chap on here had one exactly the same but with red interior and it looked the business.

They do seem to have held their money well compared to the obvious competition. Which is good for owners/sellers and the brand.

Not sure what the new price was? The reason I didn't buy a QP GTS was the entry price was double what I bought to compare I bought an XJL SuperSport 60/2010 with 60k miles 3 years ago for £16.5k. This was a little over £100k new as spec'd.

If the QPV GTS 4.7 had been the same.price or a smidge more I would have bought the QP of course. I just couldn't justify double for a car that IMHO is not twice the car of the XJL SuperSport.

The QP is more sport biased and drives better as a drivers car for sure. It is down on power/comfort and although I love the sound of a QPV the Jag runs it close even on sound. I've got sports back boxes the previous owner added and that Jag 5.0 V8 Supercharged powerplant is a peach. Also although they seem to both have a 6 speed ZF box. The Jag's box is night and day better.

I'd still have the QP at the same price but twice the price....I'm afraid not.

I bought a cat C car , it was mechanical not accident damage and cost me 50% of the new price at a year old and 3000 miles , however it was impossible to sell at 5 years old because everyone assumes cat C , it's been wrapped round a lamp post, it was valued by the trade at 50% of a non cat car.
It was a good deal at the time and I'm not sorry I did it as we got in effect a new car for the price of a 4 year old one but I wouldn't do it again because they're only cost effective if they're really cheap and you're keeping it until it's worthless.

Agreed, there is a big difference in value between Cat C & D. I tend to work on 25-30% less for CAT D and 45-50% for CAT C.

What many forget is an insurance company can often only pay out based on CAT values in the case of a secondary write off unless you have an agreed value.

There are only a few people prepared to buy CAT cars, and only a few people prepared to buy maseratis at the moment too!
Could be a hard sell.
Having said that, based on your 25-30% less for CAT D, he’s not too far off based on recent sale prices, maybe a couple of ‘000. Assuming the car is all good of course...

As has been said, depends on the damage, it could have been quite minor. There was a member in here about 18 months ago who had one just like this, black with black wheels, who had a van run into the door/rear quarter at a very low speed. No structural damage at all, but the repair quote was mad, over 20k if I remember right. Ended up as a CAT car probably.

If someone bought this one for 20k, ran it for 3 or 4 years, how much could you lose? Top gear just paid about 6k for a smashed up standard 08 car.

The worrying thing for me with big lumpy petrol V8's and the like I do love and own them by the way. Is that with massive shifts to EV's happening and coming, also huge changes in the world full stop. The worry might be will there be a buyer of some cars like these especially the CAT cars and worst examples at all full stop at any price other than really silly silly cheap?

There will come a point due to massive over production of new cars over many years that there will be more cars/sellers than buyers. So supply will outstrip demand at some point. Just a thought.

I agree Dean......For me if you buy this car you are keeping it unless you give it away.

The question is how long will it be before there is no demand at all, even for second/third car classics? Could be a good while yet, and you may say that a QP, being a saloon, will not be favoured as a second car as a classic. Who knows. It’s still a beautiful and rare car, plus being a 4 door, fun for all the family!

In the meantime, people seem to be prepared to have no issue spending 7k/year or more renting a Tesla.
21k gone in 3 years, wonder what you could get for that.......
(my man maths is of course ignoring fuel and running costs of a 10 year old maserati!)
