Can anyone recommend a solar panel battery trickle charger?

The last time I looked into them, they did not generate enough power to keep a hefty battery required by a V8 topped up but maybe they have improved in the last few years?

I used a ring one on my old 944. It was pretty big, maybe a third of the boot size and it barely maintained the battery level against the drain of the immobiliser.

If you can, a proper battery conditioner plugged into the mainswould be much better, alternatively, if the battery drains quickly, sort the drain out (often a tracker in the 4200 drains it quickly, mine did)

Waste of money , they don't work , needs mains power

I disagree, I've been using solar charging for about five years now and it works very well indeed. I purchased a panel approx 20 x 40 and a separate controller, both for under £30.

It transpires it is about eight years since I fitted the solar panel to the roof of my garage. Since fitting, I have never had a car fail to start. I also keep a spare battery charged that powers my 12 volt compressor and LED garage lights as there is no mains power.

Because of the time scale, I cannot give a link to my original purchases that were made on eBay, but I have just had a look and the nearest new equivalent is:-

I was at cross purposes, I though the OP was asking about the fold out efforts that sit on top your dashboard and plug into the cigarette lighter socket - in my opinion, they are pants. Garage roof mount on the other hand is surely a whole different ball game
