Loz.....nice list...am sure it will be added too...............BUT the next bit is to add the potential layman "fixes"......:)...:)...plus caveat things like point 18, must let gearbox warm....etc....before judging or?

Glad to see you got the computer gremlins sorted!

When buying, aside from making sure the car has a full service history with each service carried out at correct time/mileage, ask the vendor to instruct the dealer/ dealers who carried out the services to talk to you. Without this permission from the vendor, dealers will refuse to divulge any information relating to the car other than what is reported on the service invoice. This is because of the strict confidentiality laws.

Just because the car has a service book with a stamp and an invoice for the service, does not mean that there are not other issues with the car not documented. If the previous owner did not want the expense of doing the work, then there is a good chance this will not appear in the documented history. A main dealer or a decent indie should have the complete history of the car whilst under their care whether the work was done or not.

The above advice will give 100% ability to talk to the dealer on a one owner car. Unfortunately, where the car has had more than one owner, it will only give you the chance to talk to the dealer who looked after the car from the person you are buying from, but even this is better than nothing.

If the car is being bought from a dealer, the dealer would have to ask the person they bought the car from to give the permission for the garage to talk to you.

This information does not guarantee you have made the correct choice of car, but is a small precaution worth taking, and may just give you added peace of mind. It is also more prudent to do this when buying a used car from outside of the Maserati Dealer Network.

MESSAGE TO LOZ:- Number one should be to check the service/history documentation. If that is missing or not in order WALK AWAY no matter how tempting the car may look.......DON'T BE SEDUCED BY A BIT OF SPIT AND POLISH OR AN IRRESISTABLE PRICE
